I played Sedona Golf Resort while in Sedona on September 19, 2008. We spent the night across the street at the HIlton and I couldn't visit Arizona without playing a round of golf. After much searching, I settled on Sedona due to the very calm climate and the wonderful surrounding Red Rock views. I was more than pleased. The course is in excellent shape and is beautiful. It would rank in the top 5 courses I've ever played, and I've played some pretty good courses, mainly in Georgia. However, off the course, the views are absolutely breathtaking. My wife road in the cart with me just for the sightseeing and took pictures all day. We even saw some wildlife while on the course. There were plenty of rabbits at every other hole, which is not all that exciting. However, on the back nine, I was planning my tee shot, and out of the blue, a bobcat runs across the fairway in front of me, not 50 yards away.
The layout is normal in length with very lush fairways and quite accomodating rough. The natural wooded areas host no undergrowth and are very easy to play out of if you have a shot that goes astray. The course is plenty challenging, but not at the sake of enjoyability. This is a great course with fast and true greens. However, please keep one thing in mind...the air is very thin, compared to Georgia where I'm from. My shots were honestly going close to 20 yards longer than normal. I overshot 2 oe 3 greens before I realized that the elevation was allowing my ball to travel farther. I suggest honing in your distance on the practice range before teeing off. It will definitely save you a few strokes.
I strongly recommend this course to anyone in the Sedona area. The club pro was not only pleasant, but very helpful, even coming out to the practice range to talk for a while and thowing in a free swing lesson while I was warming up. If you're playing in the area, this is the course you should play. I highly recommend it. Hit em long and straight and have a great time.
