I've lived in Arizona for 37 years and don't recall ever stopping at Slide Rock so took the time to stop when I was headed from Flagstaff to Sedona. I discovered that this was an homestead at one time and there had been an apple orchard there at one time as well. To get to the creek area, you have to walk down several steps but the sound of the water draws you to it. The only "complaint" I would have is that it cost $10 per carload to get into the State Park but if you spend lots of time there, it's definitely worth it. There is a store where you can buy souvenirs, food and drink...even water shoes. If you want to avoid crowds, stay away from there during the weekends and the summer.
