“Cant believe people moan about this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2004

My lord! just read some of the reviews about this hotel, and cannot beleive the things people moan about!! UNless you are the Queen or Bill Gates, then i cannot imagine what could possibly dissapoint you about this hotel! Could it be that the amazing desert panorama was no good? or the splarkling mother of pearl pool was not pearly enough? Maybe the live singing in the spactacular Mary elaines( where your handbag gets its own stool!!)was not to your liking? Come on people this place is AMAZING and im not easily impressed. Its beautiful, elegant, and the food is spectacular! The sunday brunch is the best event i have ever eaten at. The setting is incredible, the staff lovely and the works of art very impressive. If the only thing people can moan about is the price of the parking, then you probably couldnt afford to go here in the first place. the guy who moaned about the mini bar>>come on you were probably too drunk to know youd drunk it!. This place is all about luxury and oppulance, if you mind about the money, give it a miss there will be a holiday inn nearby. If however you like the high life go for it its great!

OK place but WAY too expensive - stay in Embassy Suites or something for alot less and almost as good.

We were so impressed! The service was outstanding. I have never been greeted and asked if i needed anything so many times. The Staff is top notch. We never ate dinner there but breakfast and the pool grill are high quality. To many good restaurants close by. The rooms are huge and clean with turn down service. My only gripe was the parking fee $27.00 per day, rip off! and the weight room fee of $20.00 per person per day, ouch!! other than that i felt it was a great value. Some hotels claim to be good, but this one lives up to it!

We stayed for 7 days at the Phoenician during the last week of August.

-Rooms are big, well appointed and clean. Ask for a 1 bedroom casita type room. They are over 600 sqft and include huge bathrooms and terraces as well as dsl, 32" tvs and other great features.
-Staff is very professional, friendly and for the most part go out of their way to please. Everyone from the pool crew to the cleaning crew were superb.
- Parking was free when you stay in a casita type room as you can park right under it.
-Offseason rates (july-aug) are hard to beat.
-Location is very convenient to the best shopping and dining in Phoenix.

-Resort is very big. It either feels empty and depressing or crowded and hectic depending on whether its empty of pretty booked.
-Tel calls from room (which we never make except for this once) include an initial $24 charge!
-Gym has a $20 per day fee though most of the time we got in for free.
-The restaurants serve decent food though none have any local cuisine or uniqueness to them.
-The resort feels very tired and very 80s which might not be of your liking.
-Lobby and main building areas feel like you are in Las Vegas.
-Pools are not salt water.
-Can get very noisey at times between the kids, the music which is constantly blaring out from pool-side speakers (you can turn the music down/off by turning button) and the constant grounds crew sawing and cutting.

If you are less than 40 stay at the Four Seasons in Troon North. If you are over 40 or have more than one child, stay here.

Staying at American hotels is always a pleasure. However I find when something goes wrong you tend to notice that everything else is going wrong for everyone. I believe this to primarly be bad management, low exployee morale etc.

I stay at many Starwood Luxury & St. Regis Collection hotels all over Europe and the USA (my favorite being St. Regis, Rome) and I was incredibly disappointed with the over all quality of the hotel, service, employees, managers.

If you decide to book at the hotel be prepared for many unknown costs. From valet parking being $27 (the highest in the area I found out - and is not the highest rated hotel). Service quality based upon the gratuity you leave. In my opinion I believe poor/rude service should not be merited by any gratuity.

Also check your minibar! make sure that if you havent taken anything you tell them and that there is nothing missing. Although this is a service the hotel normally provides daily, we found out after arriving back in the UK my credit card was charged an addtional $88.00! Called them up and found out it was minibar! Then they would refund the wrong charge stating we should have made sure the mini bar was not used.

This is just a list of a few issues, I would not recommend staying there. We will not be returning to Starwood hotels in the USA again as they are obviously inferior and in a different class to their European counterparts.

Dissatisfied customer.
