“Beautiful hotel but service needs a little tweak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The hotel design is gorgeous. The grounds are well kept (who I wondered had pulled the short string and had to put the christmas lights around the many cacti?). The room was very spacious with a balcony overlooking the pool and a very active bunny. There were no pool noises but there were plenty of lawnmowers and assorted maintenance vehicle noises when outside.
The food at the italian restaurant was great, although the selection was a bit weak. The brunch food was great. Both dinner and brunch puts a dent in your wallet. Wifi was free and worked good.
Use selfpark after you check in. It is very convenient and much cheaper.

In terms of the service, it seems that they try hard but just miss it:
The hotel made a mistake and we were assaulted with numerous phonecalls and visits to the room to clear up the mistake. The maids also come to clean and in the evening for "turndown." The checkin took a long time as there were only 2 people at the desk. The restaurant waiters had to be asked to fill water, get silverware, etc. They could be a lot better trained and more attentive (for that price :).

We travel frequently and are frequently dissapointed. Not so at the Phoenician. The quality of the room, grounds, restaurant and pools were top notch and so was the service. I loved sitting by the many pools and having poolside food and drink service. We stayed in one of the cassitas overlooking the pools and had the afternoon sun and sunset on our own little balcony. My only issues was that the food is not all that healthy.

Room Tip: top floor cassita overlooking pools

While dining onsite can definitely put a burn mark in your wallet, the rack rate we paid for a large, sunrise facing room overlooking the pool was very competitive at just under $200 a night. Definitely would be a $600 a night room in NYC or Miami (if they had one this large!) After one night of $6.50 bottles of water, we shamelessly went to a local grocery and stocked up on our snacks and liquids. No problem and not-so-much as a furrowed forehead or raised brow when we returned with bags in tow.

The resort is beautiful, inside and out, including a wonderful little garden path and botanical guide on the north side of the resort facing the mountain, orchids, stone and metal art throughout. The shops off the lobby are very convenient, the professional tennis courts and swimming pools plentiful and well-maintained. The spa was outstanding. Plenty to take in and we slept like babies after our days in the sun. Great linens, comfortable beds.

Ask for a poolside or golf course (very limited number) room on an upper floor if you are a light lover. If you prefer the energy of the mountain and shade, you should enjoy the solace and tranquility on the north side with the mountain view.

Also, if you have a vehicle and are jaunting about Scottsdale and Phoenix, you can use the main entrance valet during the day (tipping as appropriate) for no valet charge. Just move your vehicle into the self-park area yourself by 7-8 pm to avoid a pricey overnight valet parking fee. This was policy in December 2012. ;-) We saved enough on the food and valet to pay for another great round of golf!

Great conference location, with bonus Starwoods Points.

BTW, many thanks to the great reception, smiles and warm welcomes at the guard house. Never, anywhere in the world have the "first faces" done such a fabulous job of welcoming us throughout the visit. The front desk can learn from your examples!

Stayed at the Phoenician for two nights and enjoyed the pools and Relish Bar. There's around nine pools and the grounds were well maintained and beautiful. Ate dinner and watched college football at the Relish Bar; big size TV and excellent appetizers and service. Self park your car to avoid steep vallet parking fees.

The rooms are very large and clean. Our room had a balcony, large modern bathroom, and comfortable bed. The room decor could use an upgrade and is getting a little worn. Downtown Scottsdale is about a 5 mile ( 5-10 minute) ride from the hotel. We ate downtown at Olive and Ivy's (breakfast) and PF Changs (dinner). Food at the hotel is somewhat expensive, but the downtown restaurants are close by and have ample parking.

Would reccomend this hotel to anyone visiting the Scottsdale area looking to golf, swim in pools, and relax at a clean beautiful resort.

OK, this resort is an absolute must. If you are looking for elegance and relaxation-this is the place for you. They have a gorgeous golf course that my husband and his friend played and loved. They also have a large amount of professional tennis courts, that I wish I knew about. I would have brought my gear. They do rent everything, but it gets expensive to go that route. They have I believe, 9 gorgeous pools. We were lucky to have fantastic sunny weather for the first week of November. The service at the pool is incredible. I love that the staff gets along so well and helps each other out at every turn. The staff at the pool I would like to acknowledge:
Hope, Blair, Brittany, Megan and Marcel. All were very efficient and helpful to each other. We were always able to get what we wanted at the pool. Get the nachos and guacamole, it is to die for!! One thing I would recommend to the hotel, get some music at the pool. Doesn't have to be loud and annoying-but something would be great. We heard many people say this. We had breakfast at the Il Terrazzo every morning. Now here is where my most Fav employee comes in--Aleksander. We LOVED him!! Our first day there, we knew he was going to be our guy everyday. He is just that ray of sunshine you need in the morning! He has the absolute best sense of humor and is perfect for his job. He went the extra nine yards to accommodate my annoying gluten and dairy intolerance and my love of grape jelly which is not normally there but was for me! Oh, by the way-it is HUGE to me that I could have gluten free toast, or a bagel or a sandwich at this resort!!!! BIG PLUS!! Food in this restaurant is fantastic. We also had a dinner there and we all unanimously agreed it was top notch. The atmosphere was lovely too. I love dim lights, table cloths and candles. It makes for a romantic evening. I thought this restaurant was absolutely superior in the quality of food to the "famous" steakhouse also in the resort. Our room was very spacious and lovely. We were checked in by Kelly, who was very sweet and made sure we got the best room we could based on availability. We were very satisfied with our accommodations. Loved the bath soaps and lotions. Very spa-like! Loved the evening turn down service with the chocolates, music and bottled water. We had drinks a few nights in the lobby at the Thirsty camel. We were kind of turned off the first 2 times by blonde server we had. She did not have a good attitude, and I felt like we were bothering her just being there. I will say we went back a third time and had Ashley, who works there part time. She was the best! We received wonderful, fast and pleasant service from her. She is really in her element in this type of work! She is Very much a people person. My friend and I signed up for a Pilate's class at the fitness center. We really liked it. The class was taught by Grayson, who clearly is passionate about what she does. She led the class and was very informative. She made sure that we were using good form and understood what it was that we were doing. Was worth going to! There is a package you can purchase that is relatively inexpensive in which you can get all aspects of the fitness center and tennis courts daily. We weren't going to do this everyday so we did ours ala carte. If you are a fitness buff, I would definitely buy the package. It includes the spa amenities, such as the steam room and hot tub, nice perk. There are some lovely boutiques in the resort. Items are very pricey, but everything is nicer and fun to look at. Lastly, I want to mention that this is a great place to walk around and look at. The grounds are so well kept and esthetically pleasing. I would go back here in a heartbeat! Please note that this is not a party place! It is an upscale place to hang out and relax. That is what we went for and that is what we got! We will definitely be back to this great resort!

From your arrival at the gate through to check out, the staff can't help you enough. The grounds are gorgeous and cover everything you could wish for. We tried the spa and wellness centre and would recommend both. We loved our visit and would love to return.

The landscaping and grounds at the Phoenician are gorgeous! We visited over Thanksgiving and it was still warm enough mid-day to lay by the pools. We also golfed the Desert & Canyon courses which were amazing (especially Desert). Everyone at the golf course was extremely helpful and friendly. Relish, the restaurant by the golf course, served great burgers and salads (although a little pricey, but not more than expected for the resort).

We were upgraded to a suite and loved the room because it had 3 balconies & beautiful views, but the decor is a bit dated so I could see how if you were in a smaller room it might be disappointing, but there are so many things to do at The Phoenician, you probably won't spend much time inside your room anyway. Overall, we loved it and will definitely be back.
