I'm a points member at this chain and was initially thrilled with the property itself, and the staff seemed nice enough, but after an exhausting cross country drive from east coast to Arizona, I found out that NONE of the deposits, rates, fees, etc were the same as when I booked the room.
First, the pet deposit: Hilton web site says $25 nonrefundable for cleaning. I called after booking and spoke to a front desk clerk as I have two little dogs, and they said it would be "no problem" to just charge for one - since they are after all going to be cleaning one single room one single time upon checkout, anyway. When I arrive at the front desk, however: $25 nonrefundable per dog PER DAY. They wanted $50 PER DAY additional for the dogs!
Second, the room rate: When I reserved the room, it was $219 the first two days and then would drop to $119. I paid well over and above room rate, taxes, amenities, etc in CASH upon checkin and was assured that my debit and credit cards wouldn't be touched. Upon checkout, my debit card was OVERDRAWN because they had charged the third day at $219, not the $119 reserved. The manager asked me if I had "proof" of this as if the burden of proof was on the customer! In fact I did have the original HTML email from Hilton Reservations proving it, so she finally "helpfully" adjusted the bill - to what it was supposed to be in the first place!
Third, RESORT FEES - !! I got an education on this scam this morning after seeing it on my bill. I travel all year long in hotels in many major chains, and never at any hotel have I seen this charge. Again, I looked back through my HTML confirmation email, nothing about "resort fees". I input my confirmation number into the Hilton Honors program portion of the website - nothing in my reservation about "resort fees". The manager of the hotel tells me - get this - after I drove 1,400 miles and walked into the lobby completely exhausted - that the key card packet that you receive AFTER you pay for and check into your room details the resort fees.
So the resort fees aren't something you agree to when you reserve the room.
The resort fees aren't mentioned BEFORE you pay for the room.
The resort fees aren't even mentioned by the staff AFTER they hand you the keys.
The resort fees are something that you apparently owe and implicity agree to because AFTER you check in, hidden deep in the key envelope, is some fine print about resort fees.
I mean, come on Hilton, why stop at $15 a day? If you can arbitrarily charge any amount you like for amenities that the website says are INCLUDED FREE OF CHARGE, and nickel and diming points guests at a four diamond resort doesn't seem gauche and tacky beyond belief, then isn't 15 bucks chump change? I mean, as the manager said to justify this ludricrous scam to increase the daily rate, it's a four diamond resort! If you're going to milk us for fraudulent charges, the sky's the limit!
All the former guests who have written reviews below - look back at your final bills that you received upon checkout and see if these considerable hidden charges weren't buried in your bill. I'm sure that Hilton bets on no one paying attention in order to get away with it - I mean, that's why they bury this fraud in the paperwork you receive AFTER paying, without ever mentioning it.

In regards to the "Check your bill carefully" review the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas would like to communicate the following:
1. In all conformation emails and print outs we offer an estimated total for the stay in which the room rate for each night is disclosed, the tax is disclosed, and daily service charge of $15 is disclosed, this breakdown of charges is offered before any guest actually makes a reservation and again on all conformations.
2. We do not charge for your room upon check in unless a guest is paying cash, we authorize credit cards given to us by the guest to ensure it has enough credit and is capable of being charged for the stay or we take a cash deposit upon check in, this eliminates guest who may walk out without a valid form of payment on file.
3. Our website lists all of are offered amenities however nowhere on the site does it mention they are free of charge.
4. Our Resort Fee is offered to our guest at $15/day and covers Fitness Center access ($12/day without Resort Fee) Wireless Internet access ($9.95/day without Resort Fee) 24 hour business access with unlimited copies, faxes and internet usage, and all local phone calls, and 10% off an Enterprise Car Rental. If a guest wishes to pay for all services individually they are free to do so. It is not a scam nor fraudulent in nature.
