“Well Past Its Prime”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

This so-called "resort" has a great location going for it but that is ALL. Don't stay here if you want a resort, if you only want a couple of beds, find a better deal elsewhere. Our bathroom was full of old repair work that was cracking, the bedroom was dimly lit and the TV was very small and at least 30 years old. The "fitness centre" was smaller than my son's bedroom at home and smelled worse. The "walking trail', "jogging trail" and "interpretive trail" are all the same path around the grounds, and it looked as though nobody had given it a thought in ten years, the few signs left were in disrepair. The "putting green" was a socializing area with tables and chairs, the tennis courts were so full of cracks and heaves that they were dangerous and he fourth court didn't even have a net so there were portable basketball hoops there. The "croquette green" was a backyard-sized area of grass constantly occupied by children playing catch so not available for croquette. Table tennis was available with two old paddles but no balls so we had to buy our own.

For the price we paid, the resort fee, and for it being in Paradise Valley and a resort, this place is a DUMP!! The pictures you see from the website or the company were either photo shopped or staged. The carpet was coming up from the floor, the room smelled like bug spray, the TV had to be from the 80's, we received maybe 10 channels and all were a fuzzy picture. Every time I went into the lobby, which was daily to get more coffee, someone was in there complaining about something. I almost feel bad for the staff, it has to be getting old. If I had to guess, whomever owns this resort is just trying to milk it for everything they can before they sell it to a commercial developer. The land is worth more than the resort. DONT STAY HERE

We read all of the reviews of this property and most are very accurate. You simply need to figure out what is most important to you and choose the correct property that fits your needs. The Cottonwoods is an AMAZING location. It is across the street from the Borgata with a Starbucks, Trader Joes, Walgreens, a juice bar, tons of restaurants and shops. You can get to all of these places on foot, which is very nice. :) This resort was probably half the price of the other resorts in the area, which allowed us more money for fun things. With that being said, the rooms are dated. They are done in an Aztec motif which is pretty timeless and you would expect to find in AZ. We upgraded to a casita with a patio and were glad that we did. it was very spacious and we enjoyed having the patio. The most important things to our family about a hotel room are the beds: the beds were very comfortable, with lots of pillows and soft bedding. The water temperature and pressure were also very good in the shower (deluxe shower head and soft, thick towels a bonus). The double bowl vanity and large countertop in the bathroom were really nice when we were getting ready to go out. A separate, closed off toilet was also nice for a family. The room had vaulted ceilings which gave it a very SW appeal. The large pool was very nice. The staff was friendly, even though we only dealt with them really when we checked in and checked out. For the money, this resort was tops! The location was a big selling point. We would stay here again with our family for sure. If all you want is glitz and bling and don't mind paying for it, then this resort is not a good fit for you. If I was looking for a romantic hotel to stay at with my husband, we would probably stay at a more modern resort. Tracy Rittmueller- Wichita, KS

Busy time in the Phoenix area and lucked out finding this place for 3 nights. Would have stayed longer but they were fully booked. When I read some reviews I started to worry about this pick but I would definitely return.

Some complaints were around check-in. Yes, some challenges but nothing major. We arrived up from Tucson 40 min earlier than check-in time of 4 and did have to wait until 4:30 to check in but the staff were hopping. The bellman had gone out to pick up some guests but the location they gave was the corner of 2 streets that run parallel so he could not find them but drove around for a while to find them. Meant another couple checking in had to wait to have bags delivered. One mother and daughter kept returning to see if their room was ready but they had been allowed to enjoy the pool while waiting for their room. I overheard a few responses to requests for early check-ins and each was informed this was not possible at this time of year. They were fully booked. The mother and daughter's room was not ready and they were given other options but they wanted to be by the pool so had to wait until half an hour before check-in time. This woman coming in every 20 minutes meant that front desk had to call housekeeping, who then had to check which rooms were ready, likely adding to some delays as they use Walkie talkie systems. Staff brought their keys to them by the pool. Another fellow was accommodated quickly but his bags were being stored for him so must have arrived earlier and returned at 4 to check in. As he had to be at an event at 5 they got him right to his room. Very accommodating.

Made me think though ... Would the folks arriving early and putting pressure on housekeeping to check in early also be the ones who complain their room is not spotless?
.
When our room was finally ready, front desk offered to waive our resort fee. Nice. Our room was spotless, a bit dated, but beds very comfortable. Quiet and peaceful. Not sure where all the guests were. I even had the adult pool to myself most times. Just some advise for those using this pool, you may need to get pool towels from the main pool. Despite seeing only a couple other people using the adult pool, all the towels left for guest use were used and lying I around. I used the same towel once I got it. Hit enough for it to dry quickly.

We don't check out until tomorrow but we had two different reservations so I had to check out and back in today. Quick and efficient. A bonus is this place is near some great restaurants and a Traders Joe. If you have a kitchenette, simply ask as they brought us a small box of plates, bowls, cutlery. Also included a tea towel, small bottle of dish soap and a sponge/scrubber. We did not plan to cook so not sure about pots and pans. Toast and sandwiches easy as they also included 2 sharp knives.

Room Tip: Most people were requesting rooms by the pool. It is spread out a bit so if you are a family, good t...

Big room, handy wet bar area with fridge. Nice to have the little patio with table and chairs out front, a good spot for having a morning coffee. Lovely and quiet, hardly any noise from other guests even though the hotel was apparently full, no road noise.

The section that contains rooms 311 has its own little pool. The main pool was bigger, more beds, a bar and obviously more people but still not super busy. Pool towels provided.

We didn't use the restaurant/bar up when we walked past it appeared to be empty anyway.

Bathroom small and a bit dated but clean and all fully functional.

Would stay again, very relaxing.

Cockroaches!!!!! This place is a dump. Stayed here for 6 nights in March 2014. Due to spring training we had no other option. The rooms are straight out of the 70's. No updates, same old tired furniture, old TV's, the ware and tare of the years is clear. And then there were the COCKROACHES. Go somewhere else, do not stay at this "resort".

This review will echo that of others. This is a worn out facility that has had very little done to operate or maintain it.
The first room we were assigned looked and felt like a 1980s motel that hadn't received a drop of paint or updated furniture etc since that time. The ice bucket was rusty! We complained and were assigned a suite($10 more) which was ok. Not great but ok. The tub was poorly patched in two places which was consistent with everything else on the property. The pool area was ok and the drinks were good and reasonably priced but everything else looked and was run down, worn out and shabby. They advertise tennis courts but the courts have large crack throughout that would make them too dangerous to use.
We were with a group of about 35 people who wanted to do a cocktail reception. Apparently there is no one willing to nor is there a facility to accommodate this kind of simple request.
Rooms were reasonably clean.
The only reason it gets two stars is that it is significantly cheaper than other resorts....and now I kin ow why.
BTW the beds were about the most uncomfortable beds I have ever encountered. I had horrible sleeps on them.
The place should and I'm sure soon will be bulldozed.

Room Tip: Get a suite for a few dollars more
