It’s been a few of years since I visited this location.
My wife had a conference to attend at the resort, and I was lucky enough to come along for the ride.
There is a main building where the reception desk, restaurant, conference rooms etc. are located.
The rooms are actually more accurately described as chalets. Our unit had a large front sitting room, with the bedroom and bathroom beyond that. The décor was obviously south-western, and slightly tired looking. It was still a very nice clean room. There was a hot tub in our fenced back yard and a nice little patio in the front yard.
It was a bit of a walk to the parking lot, but let’s face it, it never rained the whole time we were there, and the grounds were very nicely landscaped. I wish I could get my grass as green as it was there. The gated swimming pool was literally 8 steps from our front door, and again very clean and nicely landscaped. There is a bar/restaurant by the pool, and they did serve a very good barbequed burger and ice cold beer....perfect.
The hotel is located close to Camelback Mountain and the scenery is truly spectacular. Excellent shopping is very close by, and a ten minute drive will get you out to the desert. I spent several mornings just driving to the desert and setting a course to whatever mountain peak took my fancy. It really is beautiful country to the north and east of Scottsdale. With a few good tunes and a reliable car, it was one of those times in your life when you actually reach a moment of perfection. Maybe it would not be for all, but definitely was for me. I can’t wait to do it again with my wife and kids
The conference my wife was attending was attended by a lot of people who did NOT like this location. They always want a lavish 5 star hotel with a huge marble lobby. These people looked down their noses at this hotel, and thought the rooms to rustic, and horrors, a hot tub in the back yard. We absolutely loved it. After we had a nice walk after dinner, we could retire to our own private hot tub. Very relaxing at the end of the day.
On the last night of the conference, they had a western style cookout on the property. The area had a huge fire pit, covered wagons and other western artifacts scattered around. Again, we thoroughly enjoyed it while some of the stuffed shirts looked down their noses at it all. Some people just need to learn how to relax and go with the flow.
So here it is. Yes, some of the rooms could probably do with a freshen up, but that being said, we found it clean, the location is perfect for shopping and getting out of the city. Excellent grounds, beautiful scenery, friendly courteous staff, and good food at the restaurant, pool and room service.
We would definitely stay at this location again if the opportunity arose, and I know our kids would love it as well.
