“Too short a visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

We arrived at the resort at 10:00 p.m. on a VERY hot evening. The desk clerk was courteous and helpful and the driver--yes, they actually drive you over to your casita--was charming and also very helpful. The room was comfortable and all that it was advertised as. There were two adults, three children and a baby, all very tired. The bed was extremely comfortable. And the pool was marvelous the next morning. Breakfast was a little slow at the restaurant on site but the servers were solicitous and speeded up once we said that we had a plane to catch. The food was delicious. Would definitely recommend this hotel for both a family stay and for a couple's getaway weekend. It is close to the airport and to the fantastic Scottsdale Fashion Mall.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to be good; I don't know if those near the pool might be noisy as the pool is...

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you for taking time to post your review. I could not agree with you more, your stay was to short. You really should get on line and book another stay, our summer rates are a great value, and no better way to beat the heat than by hanging out pool side with a frosty cold beverage. At least think about it. Thank you so much for your business and we look forward to your return.

Sincerely,

I called from the airport for an early check in at 9:00 in the morning. We didn't get our room until 4:30 (regular check in is 4) after asking NUMEROUS times if our room was ready yet. I mean check out is 12, it takes almost 5 hours to clean ONE room??!?? Then when we finally get in our room it has no A/C on on a day when it is 112 and there is a huge utility dryer on the floor in the living room and the room smells like wet dog. Apparently the carpets had gotten very wet somehow. After calling the front desk to complain our room was moved. The new room was better but there was something (poop, puke? Who knows??!) all over the back of the bathroom door and on the floor!! The manager was very apologetic and comped our resort fees and gave us breakfast vouchers but thats the best part of our stay. We went to use the breakfast vouchers the next morning and was served regular coffee instead of decaf (regular coffee makes me deathly ill, good thing I checked) and we're served by two different people who had 2 different ideas on how our breakfast vouchers were to be used. We came back the next morning for breakfast and were told something different AGAIN. We went to the adult pool the next day and swam and hung out for a while only to get out of the pool and realize that the fiberglass particles from the side of the pool had rubbed off all over us and we have spent the next 3 days miserable. The manager was really the only person who gave a crap, I mean we sleeping in the lobby on couches after wasting one whole day of our vacation for a crappy hot and smelly room. Stay elsewhere!!

Dear Valued Guest,
I am so sorry that your stay with us was less than acceptable. I empathize with your feelings and the experience you had with us. It is our goal to exceed our guest's expectations and in this case we have fallen short. This certainly is not the experience I want any of our guests' to have. I do hope you will give us other opportunity in the future to redeem ourselves, thank you for your business.

Sincerely,

Be sure and get this place off a discount web site. You're paying for the name. There is a $15 Plus tax "resort fee" added to what ever price you're quoted. Part of the $15 plus tax ($16.34) is 2 bottles of nestle water, you know, the water you can get at Trader Joe's right by Cottonwoods for $.49. No choice in paying the resort fee. The room was very nice and the property is nice. The room is far from the parking lot and we were not offered a bell person. Would be a strain for a handicapped person. Our room was about 1/4 mile from parking. Did not eat or use spa.

Dear Valued Guest,
I wish to extend my personal apology. It is apparent that the resort fee was not clearly explained to you, upon your arrival by our stay. It is never our goal to mislead our guests, and I am sorry that you feel you were. The resort fee is a charge that the hotel charges the guests, therefore when a room is booked using a third party channel such as Hotwire or Priceline, they are not disclosing that fee as they do not collect the moneys for it, they collect only for the room. The resort fee is a common practice in the area and it covers much more than just the bottled waters in your room, in addition you receive; A free appetizer at the Oasis Pool Bar, 10% discount at Moriah's our breakfast restaurant, Wireless Internet, access to the Oasis Fitness Center, USA Today, Town Car service, free one hour bike rental, discount cards to J. Alexander’s, and Dolce Salon and Spa, as you see it is much more than just bottled water. Again, I am sorry that this was not made clear upon arrival, as I am sure your stay would have been more enjoyable. Should you have additional questions please feel free to contact me directly.

Sincerely,
Richard Ebright

The Cottonwoods is nothing less than the most relaxed, intimate, and private resort in Scottsdale. The rooms are available as traditional one-room suites, or large casitas with over 700 square feet of space. If you’re looking for a place to go for a private getaway with your spouse, the premier suite is for you. It features a separate living room and full kitchen, as well as an enclosed private patio.

My wife and I did our honeymoon at the Cottonwoods and have been back nearly a dozen times for anniversaries. We love nothing more than to enjoy some private time on the patio, laying out at the pool, walking the grounds, or taking a nap in a hammock.

This is not a luxury resort, but it is a solid 3.5 star where the emphasis is on privacy, intimacy, and solitude. If these are what you’re looking for, then look no further.

Room Tip: Ask for a premier suite.

This resort was just large enough to have everything we needed for an enjoyable getaway. But it wasn't so large that we felt like we were fighting crowds. A big part of that atmosphere was achieved by the architecture. Instead of rooms in high-rise towers, the" traditional casitas" are more like duplexes with front porches and private back porches. So there was no one above us stomping on our ceiling. The landscaping was very nice. I especially enjoyed the jogging path which follows the perimeter of the property. It was very clean and featured beautiful cacti.
Our rate from expedia included a resort credit which we used on a tasty breakfast each morning.
Everyone we met working there were very friendly.

The layout of the property really adds to the tranquility and charm. At times it is hard to believe we are in the middle of Scottsdale. Our little cassita was clean, comfy and quiet. The biggest hangup is all the 'resort' fees. I understand most hotels and resorts need to do this but its getting out of hand! The pool was huge, they even offered a morning water aerobics class which I actually did do. The location is perfect, next to some excellent shopping areas and close to downtown Scottsdale.

Great location, easy to access Scottsdale and Phoenix with good restaurants surrounding the resort. It has absolutely stunning, well tended grounds, a lovely pool, tennis courts and running track. We were really impressed by this. Unfortunately it is let down by the poor quality room accommodation. The first room/cabin we had did not have working Air Con. The staff quickly tried to fix it and then moved us to another room with working AC. But this was the same in terms of being tired and dated - this applies to the furniture, kitchen area and bathroom. Having seen two rooms that suggests to us that the whole resort is the same and needs some serious investment. We were expecting more, especially given the price and location and so came away disappointed. We would not go back.
