“Amazing spa-beautiful property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012 via mobile

The grounds of the hotel are truly beautiful. The hotel creates a peaceful environment to enjoy. The main pool can become very crowded with kids so take advantage of the adult pool if you can. The spa is wonderful. It is worth spending a little more and booking the regency club which gives you full access to the spa at all times and includes breakfast, drinks, and snacks throughout the day which is a huge plus I you are with your family . We had a couples massage which was probably the best we have experienced thanks to Brittany and Greg our massage therapists.
The downside is the rooms were very basic and I bit dated. Although the property seems to make sure the aesthetics are perfect the rooms are in need of renovations. There are plenty of restaurants in the area so rent a car and the self parking lot I so close no need for valet.

We were there during spring break which made the room rates very expensive. We stayed at another hotel for the first half of our week and then moved to the Hyatt for the second half as we were not able to get 8 nights straight at any of the resorts. We essentially checked out of the Fairmont, drove 12 minutes, and checked right into the Hyatt, so we had a direct comparison between the two. Room rates were essentially identical when you consider the extra charges at each place.

Grounds and pool area were very nice, but the pool area was quite noisy and crowded compared to the Fairmont. I agree with another reviewer that the waterfalls in the pool area drown out people talking, but I found that it was difficult to concentrate on my book with the noise of the waterfalls. There are a lot of lounges in the pool area and only a few spots where they are not side by side. The lobby bar which opens up to the outside on the pool level was also very crowded and noisy at 5 pm.

The room that we were in had a very large balcony that also had a couple of lounge chairs on it. Nice view of the pool and towards the golf course. Room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. Nice to have a mini fridge that we were able to put some water and juice in to keep cold. However, housekeeping seemed to do only the bare minimum. The first night we had to remake the bed as the bottom sheet didn't cover the bottom third of the bed. Our legs and feet were on the mattress cover. During our stay housekeeping never did anything on the balcony like straighten the towels on the lounges or dust the table and chairs. I wouldn't expect that at a Hampton Inn, but when you are paying $500+ per night at the Hyatt I would expect that the balcony would be cleaned as well as the room.

We did find that the service in the restaurants left something to be desired. Had breakfast in the SWB each morning and had one dinner there. At breakfast it took at least 10 minutes to get a cup of coffee. They would seat us, leave us with the menu and we would wait for the server. The server would come to find out what we wanted to drink (coffee) and then go and get it. It would be at least 10 minutes before we saw our coffee and got our order taken. Getting a refill later on was even more painful for some reason. Food was very good and fairly reasonable in price considering the price of the rooms at this hotel.

The last night that we were there we did have a problem with some pests, but this was taken care of very quickly and I was very satisfied with the resolution.

Quite frankly we had very mixed feelings about our stay here. While we enjoyed it, we unfortunately kept comparing our previous nights at the Fairmont. Using a cruising analogy, the Hyatt was like a Carnival or Disney cruise while the Fairmont was Holland America or high end Royal Caribbean. The Fairmont had a more relaxed atmosphere while the Hyatt had more of a party atmosphere.

When we go to Scottsdale again we will most likely pick the Fairmont again over the Hyatt.

Room Tip: Stay away from the center courtyard rooms as the lobby bar noise is a bit much.

Beautiful grounds and wonderful staff. The pool has areas for families/kids and a more private area for when you don't want to be surrounded by kids. Waterfalls in the pool area drown out any noise from anyone talking on their cell phone or to one another. The rooms were very clean and quiet. The Market had fresh fruit, yogurt parfaits, ice cream and lots of snacks. The open-air restaurant has live music each night, fun for families or couples.

Internet was very weak for I-pads but our laptops worked fine.

I wished the tennis center had more organized clinics for adults.

This is a beautiful resort and the grounds including the various pools, lounges and restaurants make it a very enjoyable and comfortable place to stay. Came here for a family reunion and it was perfect. Only complaint was that wireless internet was very weak and was not able to connect on my iPod. Rooms are well furnished and bathroom is very spacious.

I had stayed here a decade ago and when I was in Scottsdale and had one night before heading home this trip. The best part (and if you can't afford to stay, it is expensive) just go and have a drink in the bar/patio. It is hard to describe, but the bar/lounge area has what I can only describe as a huge glass wall that raises up (much like a garage door in good weather. You can sit inside in the club chairs, but still be part of the outside. The landscaping is magnificient and as you sip your cocktail, you look out over palm trees, a beautiful golf course at Camelback mountain. What a view! The night we were there, there was a local band that was so wonderful I wanted to buy one of their CD's, but could not find one for sale. It is an incredible experience and I highly recommend you splurge and visit this breathtakingly beautiful hotel.

Room Tip: If you can get one overlooking the golf course with a view of the mountain . . . that's the one...
