I bid on a 4-star resort room in Scottsdale with Priceline but ended up with the Mondrian. This hotel has 4-star grounds but the rooms are 2-star at best.
The grounds and shared areas are nice; lots of cool little details and very stylish. The pools are pretty and everything appeared well maintained. The problem with this place are the rooms. They are just downright ugly and un-welcoming. The white sheer curtains that are hung on all the walls are dusty and give the room a closed-in feeling. The black and white decor is cool but since the room (I was in ) was very small; it felt institutional. The lighting is poor and made the room a bit gloomy. The bathroom fxtures were dusty and painted walls were a little dirty; the tub was old and did not drain well. The air-conditioning unit is very loud - as a previous reviewer mentioned, it sounds like a plane taking off every time it kicks on. I only paid $120 a night so it was ok; but I would never pay more for this place.
The hotel was very very quiet during our stay - probably because it was a weeknight and shoulder season - (or is this hotel going to close soon?? ) I would say about 1/3 occupancy. So we did not see the 'party and wild' side of this hotel. But if you are young and looking for a party, this is probably a great place for that.
The valet staff was very nice and friendly as was the grounds and housekeeping crew. But I had a bad experience with the young girl at check-in/check-out. I wish I could remember her name so I could include it in this review; she was rude and condescending.
There are so many other wonderful resort choices in Scottsdale; take your money and yourself somewhere else.
