“Loved The Mondrian”

Mondrian Scottsdale

Aug 4, 2008

I just got back from a great weekend at The Mondrian and wanted to share my experience with everyone. It was my first time to the property and I will most definitely be back. The location is the best in Scottsdale and the service was among the best I've seen anywhere. The scene that they've created at the pool rivals that of any hotel I've stayed at in Vegas or L.A.

I just returned from a whirlwind birthday weekend at the Mondrian, and couldn't be happier! We had a group of 16 celebrating, and the friendliness and service of the staff throughout the property made it that much better. Dinner at Asia de Cuba on Saturday night was perfect, and our server was wonderfully accommodating with our late night party crowd atmosphere. We loved the decor of the rooms and the front desk area, not at all standard fare and offered tons of photo opportunities! We spent all of Saturday poolside, and used one of the cabanas for periodic sun-relief. Service was genuine and friendly here as well! No one wanted to leave on Sunday, and I can guarantee at least some of us will be back.

this place is more appealing online than it is in reality.... the building and the rooms kinda look like a motel that has been stapled over with cheapish pseudo-modern accents. the room was small and the air conditioner labored in the hot arizona climate. that having been said, the pool area is quite the scene if you are into that and the sky bar inside is also pretty cool -- it was a good launching point for our night out. overall it was fine for the one night we stayed there but next time i will be looking for something of a higher quality.

My wife and I recently spent our anniversary at Mondrian and enough could not be said on how amazing this property is. The design of the Lobby is beautiful and the layout of the hotel is perfect with everything surronding the pool's. It is a bit different than the other Morgans propery's but it was great for us. The room we had was a Cabana room with a large patio leading to the Play pool. I have seen people complain about the rooms, but why in the world are you in Scottsdale and staying in the room? You should be hanging out at the pool or in the spa. The room had everything we needed. Very large Flat Screen, comfortable bed and enough room to move around. The bathroom was smaller but again what are you doing in there? The first day we were there the pool was very quiet but we did not care and this made the service outstanding, The staff are what really make this place special. Everyone is so friendly and they are actually sincere unlike other boutique hotels. We ate breakfast everyday at the hotel and the food was great and again the staff was so friendly.
The concierge help arrange for us to horseback riding and was able to get us a rental car, everything was taken care of for us without a problem. The horseback riding was a great experince and absoulty beautiful.
On Saturday we went back to the pool and it was packed, we got there around 10:00am and were more than able to reserve a pool chair, they even held them for us as we went and got a message in Agua, the spa on property. The spa is not large but perfect for a relaxing message. We enjoyed the Asia De Cuba for dinner and again great food and even better service.
I understand people compare this to Modrian LA, but it is a much different hotel with a more laid back vibe, so it may have the same name but in a different style. Again what makes this hotel is the amazing and friendly staff. We can not wait to go back.

“Mondrian provides a refreshingly 'different' Conference/Event Hotel experience”

Mondrian Scottsdale

London
Jul 22, 2008

I recently stayed four nights at Mondrian Scottsdale and had an altogether different experience from a lot of the comments left here on Tripadvisor.

Firstly, I spend approximately 20 weeks a year staying on business in Hotels all over the world. Sometimes I am attending a conference (like this stay at Mondrian), sometimes I am a guest speaker and sometimes I even organise an event (through a third party Event Management company) for any number of delegates from 50 to 750. The above takes me to Asia, Europe, Middle East, the Caribbean etc and I stay generally in 5 star Hotels from all the typical branded names – Ritz Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, Intercontinental, Le Meridien and Hyatt, etc.

In the past I have used Tripadvisor just to gauge what sort of stay I could potentially have. Sometimes I thought the comments were accurate, others completely different to my experience and others clearly were left by people that had an axe to grind. I personally have found from experience that if you stick with a few brands you like you will get consistency. For example, you can pretty much ensure that what was a comfortable bed or high pressure shower in the Four Season in Hong Kong will be just as good in one of their Hotels in say London or New York. But what I didn’t realise until I came to stay here at the Mondrian, is that most of these luxurious Hotels blur into one another and lack collectively one thing, personality.

From the moment I arrived the staff I dealt with didn’t seem to have a smile painted on but genuinely seemed pleased to help me. I didn’t get call “Sir” once and each time I interacted with say the Front Desk or Concierge they used my name even first name at times (and no I wasn’t wearing my name badge). Our first night (Tuesday night) we ate as a group in Asia de Cuba which was excellent, great food and a lively fun atmosphere – I think I can now Salsa after being got up (twice) dancing with some of my colleagues by the brilliant Cuban Band that was playing. The next two evenings were spent outside the Hotel in Scottsdale itself., which was easily within walking distance. Our conference went without a hitch, there was always plenty of food and drinks during our breaks and the AV equipment never let the organisers or the Hotel down.

As four of us were heading off to Florida on Saturday afternoon for another conference starting the next day (we had a 0730 tee off), we stayed on at the Mondrian and made a bit of a night of it. We ate in Asia de Cuba again, which again was brilliant. We headed into Scottsdale but returned after a couple hours as nothing quite seemed to compare with the cocktails and vibe in the Red Bar. Sure as other people have mentioned in Tripadvisor there are more tattoo’s and bleached blondes on a Friday night than there were on a week night, but surely this is better than looking at 40 something’s trying to look good in designer (‘ish) business suits - in otherword’s me.

Based on my stay and the thoughts of my colleagues that I spoke with, you can’t go wrong with Mondrian if you are looking for a ‘cool’ hotel in Scottsdale that provides an ‘overall different’ Conference/Event experience from the more run of the mill, yet admittedly more traditionally luxurious big brand hotels.
