“Pleased we booked the Papago”

Best Western Papago Inn & Resort

Didn't know quite what to expect after reading mixed reviews but we needn't have worried - this hotel was just right for us after a long flight to Phoenix. We stayed one night before heading north but wished we could have stayed a couple of days - the pool was lovely, the gardens were really pretty and the on-site restaurant was fine for breakfast. It was convenient for our travel plans and a surprisingly relaxing place to be because of the lovely courtyard and pool. Didn't need to use the air-con so can't comment on that but the beds were comfy and the room perfectly clean. We got parked right outside the front of the hotel and had no problems with the security of our car. I would definitely return to the Papago Inn if we're that way again.

We came to Scottsdale for a few days of baseball spring training.
The location was great as we were able to drive to most venues in 10 - 15 minutes, including old town and the fashion mall. We used the on site internet access for e-mail and airline boarding passes.
The beds were comfortable, breakfast was good and the pool with the shade available was great.

There were several other guests in for spring training, many repeat visitors to this location.

We will come here again to enjoy the warm weather and baseball.

I picked this hotel because it was reasonably priced, but was already a bit wary given the reviews I had seen here. I must say that my experience was so disappointing that I checked out after a single night and went back to my favorite Phoenix-area hotel for the rest of my stay.

The hotel is in a very odd location on a main road, surrounded by small strip malls and car dealerships, and there is a "massage" place right next to the parking area.

The receptionist was indifferent and not particularly welcoming. The room was particularly small and dark, and definitely in need of updating. The bathroom's fixtures were all quite dated, except for the curved shower curtain rod. The slow and erratic wireless internet did not work well at all. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the TV is a good size with lots of channels. The room does have a small fridge and microwave.

I could imagine this being a suitable budget hotel for a family with younger kids on a quick stopover in the area (there is a pool), or perhaps for an older couple, but would not recommend it for business travel at all.

Note that unlike most other Best Western hotels, this one does not provide free breakfast, and instead directs you to a place nearby or their on-site restaurant, but which opens far too late to be useful.

“Good stay”

We stayed here in November 2007 as a stopover before we left Phoenix to drive north. It was clean, with nice grounds and the staff were very helpful. The rooms were comfortable and lived up to our expectations of the Best Western Group. Good buffet breakfast place in Papago Plaza next door and close to Scotsdale old Town and the Botanic gardens. Not too far from the airport and not too difficult to find. It was the only Best Western we used that didn't have internet access for people without their own laptops and Wifi.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights at the end of April / beginning of May and really loved it! We arrived in Phoenix after a long flight from Europe at about 7:15PM. The hotel has a convenient location from the airport, so at 8PM we were in our room.

We loved the place from the moment we arrived. It was very hot (around 100 degrees), but the hotel has a lovely inner courtyard with a nice, clean pool and several trees, so you can always sit in the shade if you want to get out of the sun.

There is no breakfast included, but there is a restaurant on the property so the next morning we had a great breakfast which we ate in the courtyard. I especially liked the big cage with birds in the courtyard, because the singing birds just added something extra to it.

The hotel is not in the center of Scottsdale, but it's only a 5 minute drive to the old town and from there we took the free bus around town.

The room itself was good and clean. We only require a bed and a shower and we had no trouble with either. All rooms overlook the inner courtyard and in the evening I would sit just outside the room. The only downside I can think of was that the airconditioning wasn't working properly, so it was pretty warm at night.

The staff was very friendly and answered all our questions about the area. If we ever return to Phoenix, we would definately stay at this hotel again!
