Ok- to start we are far from picky when it comes to traveling- But this place was disgusting, walls falling apart, loud kids at the pool all night long and all the rooms we moved to smelled like mold, we had our 2 kids with (ages 3 and 1), and this is not the type of place you would want your kids to sleep in- my 1 year old woke up with a runny nose and sick from the mold smell. And me and my husband and both of the kids had the worst sore throats ever- this place is nasty. We were so disgusted, that we left the place and flew home early- made me never want to travel with my kids again, as i do not want them getting sick from a vacation. By the way, if you do still want to travel here- good luck getting in the bathroom, i am 4' 11" and about 118 lbs and i could barely get in there, it was so small, not a bad neighborhood, just a disgusting hotel-very surprised that i didnt see any cockroaches!

“Poor Customer Service!!”

Althugh the suite was fine, customer service is TERRIBLE! After finding unexplained charges on my credit card I attempted to find an explanation. The front desk could not help as they have no 'authority' and I was told only the manager could satisfy my request for an explanation of the bill. I have made numerous calls to the manager only to go into voicemail. NONE of my calls have been returned. I am told each time I call that the mamager is not in or busy!

“Nice new beds and furniture, older property, indifferent staff”

We ended up at this property for the night through a Priceline bid. Priceline claims this place is a three star hotel, I wouldn't agree - more like two. We did get a good deal on price though... Each room is a small suite, with a sofa/TV small table and fridge/micro area, and a bedroom. All the furnishings appeared new and were nice, with the bed having nice sheets and pillows. The bathroom was clean and I don't recall it being as small as other reviewers mentioned. The rooms did leave an impression of being old as the ceilings were a bit low and covered with the popcorn paint. The pool area seemed nice, but we didn't use it. The front desk service was indifferent at best, and breakfast was only served 6:30-9, which was too early for us on the weekend so we never made it there. This apparently used to be a Best Western and even though its received a makeover, its still pretty much a motel. Good location right next to Kierland Commons. We didn't hear any noise from the airport. I'd recomend this as a good place if all you need is a comfy clean bedroom in this area - certainly cheaper that the resorts around it.

“AVOID IT !”

Scottsdale Thunderbird Suites

FLEA MARKET, AVOID !!!
Very small suites (?) with the loudest airconditioning I have had in 15 hotels on this vacation.
Very old and partly not very clean either.
We checked in after driving for 6 hours and 3/4 people where waiting to check in or had other questions.
The girl at front desk asked her manager ( PHIL SNYDER) for assistence (he was sitting in his office behind the front desk reading the newspaper, I could see him sitting as the picture at front desk worked as a mirror), he waved and never showed up !
Then the girl directs us to a elevator from where we had to go up and down some stairs to get to the 2nd floor with 3 pieces of luggage (not very nice, I can tell you). Afterwards we find out that there was another elevator that would have taken us directly to the 2nd floor but she forgot to tell us was her later excuus.
Very small minisuites, nothing like Embassysuites (dont get fooled). Very very small bathroom, once in you cant move 2 steps.
We had breakfast one morning (FREE HOT BREAKFAST is a joke) on the patio and had to wash clothes (chairs and tables are dirty, I dont think they ever clean them).
We asked front desk abouth tourist sites, they did not know, asked them abouth restaurants, they did not know.
We askes for washing powder to use in the laundry-room to wash our clothes, they had to re-order, nothing available.
Roomservice is bad, they leave dirty glasses in the room etc. and on our last day they did not came in the room at all.
We had to leave at 5 o'clock in the morning to get our flight and I only could get in touch with the manager after returning home.
I asked for a refund wich he refused to give because he did not liked our attitude........not the lack of service or dirty patio where important to him.............he did not even mentioned that in his email.
The price for all this ? $ 603,00 for 4 nights !

“boy this place is older”

Scottsdale Thunderbird Suites

Nov 11, 2007

I also stayed here recently (Nov 5 to 9), an older facility, in North Scottsdale. No mention of Priceline during checkin and forgot my CC and to sign the checkin sheet, clerk just circled the room on a map and off I go. Back down in the lobby maybe 30 minutes later using one of the two computers and the clerk says "I'm looking for you." Then she's holding up my CC which isn't her fault, I should have asked for it back. Well anyway, everything got resolved. The room is like an Embassy Suites setup, microwave and mini fridge and bar sink. There were utensils and plates in the cabinets. The bathroom was small, I mean if you are facing the basin, to turn to the tub, you literary had to stay in the small foot steps. My bathroom at home is small, but this place takes the cake. The beds (assigned doubles) were fine. I noticed a musty smell throughout my stay, even opening the windows wouldn't aleve anything. Oh, the screen on the bedroom window was not fitted properly and spider webs like it had not seen a dusting in months. Luckily, no bugs flew into the room. Breakfast was yogart, juices, fruits, pastries, cold cereal and one steam tray item. You can order egg items, but I did not. Two computers in the lobby with printers very useful to print boarding passes, during my four night stay, I never had to wait to use them. Pool open in the center courtyard. Looked like a laundry room on the first floor next to the fitness center which I did not used either. If you stay on the street of the hotel, it turns to Greenway and another mile west has supermarkets. Costco is the next major street east (Hayden). Heard a jet takeoff after 10pm two of the four nights. Helicopter takeoffs in the AM and very early construction across the street. I'd suggest asking for a room in the west building. Never stayed in this area before, a little out of the way, but doable. $38 per night plus fees on Priceline.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — cheap Priceline price
    • Disliked — tad far from main drag, also construction on Scottsdale Rd, use Hayden or 64th Street
