“Best service I have ever received”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

I have never had such exceptional service from a hotel. When we arrived shortly after midnight we were checked in, I went to get the family and bags from the car and he had gotten the elevator for us and then when we stepped off the elevator there he was to open the door and point us in the direction of our room. The service was like this for our entire stay. The lobby, restaurant, courtyard etc were new and fresh. The only downside to this hotel was the room was a bit weathered/dated but from what I understand they are in the process of renovating. It was clean and the beds were super comfortable. I have never been able to sleep well in a hotel, but had no problems here. There was a hot breakfast, which was good and switched up every morning. They also had an assortment of fresh fruit and yogurt, pastries, oatmeal, cereal, toast and bagels. I was very happy with my stay at this four story hotel. But until the renovations are done if you are more concerned with the asthetics of the room over service, comfort, and cleanliness, probably not the place for you.

“Disappointed, especially in the value for your money.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

We stayed at the Scottsdale Thunderbird Suites on a recent golf trip/guys weekend. We had two "suites" side by side on the second floor of the three storey complex. The hotel is in an industrial area next to the airport in north Scottsdale although there are some shopping and restaurant choices within a 5 minute drive.

We paid over $200 a night for each of the suites per night and as such I did have somewhat higher expectations than what the 3 star accommodation offered. Although it is evident that the hotel underwent renovations at some point, it still had an old somewhat run down feel to it. The room consisted of two double beds in a separate back room and a pullout sofa in the front room with a kitchenette type area (small fridge, counter and sink). The sofa bed, which we had to make use of was pretty much unusable due to the age and it being so uncomfortable. This was evident in both rooms. To top it off, at 1 am in the morning after getting back to the hotel, there were no linens for the sofa bed and we had to go down to the front desk and get them, then make the bed up. The double beds were rather comfy however.

The breakfast was adequate and had some warm choices, fruit and cereals along with toast and pastries. Overall service in the hotel was adequate as well, nothing notable but nothing concerning.

I was disappointed with the quality of the hotel and expected a lot more for the price paid, although I understand it is in the Scottsdale area where prices/costs tend to be a little higher, it was by far the worst accommodation of my 4-5 visits to the area, especially for the value for the money. Had we paid half the price I would possibly be able to recommend a stay but unfortunately I am unable to do so.

I am disappointed this guest did not find our hotel to deliver a good value. Our room rates this year have never been over $200 if they booked direct. This guest booked through a 3rd party site so we, at the hotel, do not know how much they paid for their suite. I always recommend checking multiple sites to make sure you’re getting the best rate possible.

Our property is located in a light industrial area near the Scottsdale Airport. Many of the surrounding businesses have their own hangers. It is only ½ mile to two of the nicest shopping areas in North Scottsdale – the Scottsdale Quarter and Kierland Commons. Within three miles of the hotel there are more than 40 restaurants with all different types of cuisine and all different price ranges. We have a free shuttle during the day to take guests to the shopping areas, restaurants and other locations within a 5mi radius of the hotel.

All our suites have either two double beds, like this guest described, or one king bed along with a sofa bed. We have replaced just over ½ the sofabeds and are due to have the others replaced in the near future. We do not make up the sofabeds in advance unless requested to but we have sheets at the Front Desk and blankets in the suite’s closet.

Our breakfast buffet always has eggs, breakfast meat (sausage and/or bacon and/or chorizo) and another hot dish which changes. Our other rotating hot item sometimes includes biscuits & gravy, pancakes, waffles or French toast. We also have fruit, yogurt, cereal, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, muffins and Danish. We think it is a very complete breakfast.

At our property we pride ourselves on the service the guests receive and the value they get for their money. I’m sorry this person did not feel they got the value they deserved.

“Left after one night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

When we booked this room, there wasn't a huge selection of affordable rooms in the area because of spring training. We booked without looking at tripadvisor (which I usually do). Big mistake! We reserved the room for a week and checked out after the first night. The room had a bit of a smell to it, the wallpaper was peeling off the wall right by the front door as you walked in. There was a huge stain on the carpet in the bedroom and the bathroom looked like it was wiped down with a dirty washcloth. The bathroom had barely enough room for one person. The air conditioner was noisy. I do have to say the bed and pillows were awesome though!

I’m sorry this guest did not enjoy their stay at our hotel. We work very hard to make sure the suites are clean and in good condition before the suites are rented. We do have some additional improvements planned which will address some of the areas this guest pointed out – new wallpaper and carpet in suites, replacing the remaining old televisions and some other smaller projects. We have just completed the renovation of our bathrooms; unfortunately we were not able to make them any bigger. The most consistent complaint we get is that our bathrooms are too small and I agree they are one person at a time facilities.

Our Executive Housekeeper has an extensive career in cleaning and holds a certification for his title. He has brought a new level of cleanliness to the guest suites. In this case it is possible we missed something but every suite is inspected for cleanliness before it is made available to rent.

Again, I am sorry this guest did not enjoy their stay with us.

“Not Good”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

I have never written a hotel review until now. I have stayed here for several years to be close to Westworld. I was shocked at how run down our room was. There were holes in the walls and the room smelled like it had been smoked in. There were 2 beds in the room-we tried each one because the first one we slept in was lumpy and we sunk into the middle of it and the second one was no better. The sheets slipped off one of the beds revealing what looked like blood stains on the mattress. Scarey! While trying to watch a movie, our neighbor was apparently taking a shower. The noise was unbelieveable and we had to turn up the volume on the tv to hear it. Consequently the remote control didn't work which further inconvenienced us! We love the location but won't go back-way to expensive for what it was. Definitely needs Hotel Impossible for help!

Room Tip: Read the reviews before you go!

I’m sorry this guest did not enjoy their stay with us. We try to offer a good value for a good suite. For this guest we fell short of our goal.

Our hotel has been 100% non-smoking for over six years. Recently all the suites had the ceilings and bathrooms repainted and some guests have commented that they smell paint in the rooms (all painting stopped in the beginning of January). When we do find a guest has smoked in a suite we charge a $200 cleaning fee. Every guest signs acknowledging this fee. However our HAVC units do draw air from the walkway area and sometimes people walk and smoke out outside the suites maybe the smell got drawn into the suite from outside. We are very conscious of odor and try not to use an overpowering scent in the rooms due to potential guests’ sensitivities.

All our beds are top of the line Simmons pillow top mattresses which are inspected every time we make the bed. We get very few complaints about housekeeping and when we do we try to address them ASAP by sending additional staff and supervisors to the suite involved to try and meet the guest’s desires.

Please do read the reviews before coming. The majority our guests enjoy their stays with us. With this guest we fell short of our goal of having happy satisfied guests and for that I apologize.

“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Went to this hotel from Feb 20 to the 25. It was clean, not so upper end but the area for what we were doing was great. Breakfast was good. Our excursions from here were the Arabian horse show, Winter Range Event, Cave creek area, old Scottsdale, and Mesa Rodeo. And many stops between. Ton's of Cowboy and western fun. Great weekend to go to these events. Would do it again the same. Felt that this hotel was a great location based on the areas we ventured into.
Staff was great, the airport beside us and we sided to the airport was not a problem at all.

Room Tip: We had the upper floor, so we didn't hear anyone above us. Receptionist call on that one, and ap...
