The rooms at this hotel are large and okay. The pool and whirlpool are nice, but almost no service (drinks) there. The breakfast was very simple (plastic plates etc.), but maybe because as a European I am used to much better...

A friend and I went to Scottsdale on a girls shopping weekend, and chose Hotel Scottsdale for the location, and description. It did not live up to the reviews and rating on Travelocity. First of all it is NOT a hotel, it is a motel/travel lodge. They have done some renovations to the pool area and interior lobby, bar and restaurant area but that is where the face lift ends. The rooms are tired, the furniture is dated and old. The free breakfast is just a continental breakfast with the addition of scrambled eggs. The coffee was weak, and the buffet tables were not well maintained. If you want a relaxing stay in a nice hotel, don't stay here. If you are looking for the travel lodge experience, this is the place for you.

Our experience at Hotel Scottsdale was wonderful. The one minor problem (a noisy trash/waste pickup at 5:30 am instead of the usual 8 to 10 am) on our last day that I complained about to the manager at checkout prompted him to credit our bill for $90. That's terrific customer service and much more meaningful than an apology. There wasn't much of a price difference booking directly on their web site so we did that based on some posters having problems with third party reservations. Hotel picked us up at the airport on their free shuttle (just call the day before and give them estimated time you will have your baggage and be outside) The hotel front desk even told me about the Dollar Car rental counter right next door in Chapparal Suites Hotel where we not only avoided the hefty airport surcharge but got a free upgrade to a PT cruiser with no extra charge to drop off at airport (we had a red eye back so convenient to keep luggage in trunk and get extra day of sightseeing in after hotel checkout)
There was a free buffet breakfast every day of bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, waffles, cereals , yogurt, toast, bagels, and fruit plus coffee and juices served in their newly remodeled dinner restaurant The biggest plus was unlimited bottles of cold water set out by the pool for guests to take and use for free. We went through 7 bottles a day, taking them with us on trips to desert and hiking or even walking around Old Town Scottsdale.
We booked the standard room which had a fridge and microwave and big flat screen TV plus brand new "Dream top" mattresses rather than the "premium" which have a view of the pool for $20 more. The bathrooms were clean with plenty of hot water and housekeeping had the rooms done in time for inexpensive "Happy hour" at 3 each day of beer and wine we stocked in fridge. Lots of parking space and very convenient location ( half a block up Scottsdale Road from Fire Sky)
Mostly corporate types and even two conventions (including Rich Dad Poor Dad group) who were all quiet at night. Make no mistake, this is not the "resort" experience but rather a converted motel but at half the price of nearby Scottsdale hotels and resorts, we were quite content with the value. Definitely would stay again and recommend highly.

manager and front desk staff incompetent at customer service. The hotel was overbooked so we were sent to another Hotel - they gave us a google map with the wrong directions so we searched for quite some time to finally get to a Hampton Inn. They would not credit us back the money for the first night and told us it was our responsibility to contact the company we booked with (skoosh in the UK) to get the money. When I asked if I could use their phone to call the UK, they did not let me. They were supposed to try and get a hold of the company and call me that day but never followed up until we asked them to write a letter of documentation stating we were owed the first night's stay. Again, it was OUR responsibility even though they overbooked the hotel and sent us to the wrong hotel our first late night when we finally arrived in Scottsdale. First room given to us was not the king size I requested and no one asked us if we were okay with 2 double beds. fitness room was too small, the elliptical machine was broken.
