“High top adobe patio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

If you like outside dining on a warm evening then this is the place for you. Offering nice views of the surrounding area, the spotted Donkey is above the rest of the adobe shops in the Pedregal center. Food is excellent with much to choose from on their menu ( we had delicious fish tacos ), and the waitstaff is very friendly.

“Fun place for lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We wanted Mexican food and asked Siri for a highly rated Mexican restaurant near us. She pointed us to The Spotted Donkey. This shopping center is a trip! I totally felt like I was in Flinstone land. It was designed to blend in with the local boulder scenery, but the colorful paints and made everything look a little cartoony. We sat on the very pleasant outdoor patio for lunch. The service was friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful. 4 tacos came in one order and you can mix and match. My Cobb salad was also huge and very yummy. My only gripe was that it does not give you chips and salsa on the house; you have to order it off the menu and pay for it. I had always expected to get chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant the moment you sit down. I think I was especially dissappointed with no chips because I was super hungry. Overall, the Spotted Donkey was a good and fun place to eat.

“Great Mexican Food and Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

This really is a great restaurant for authentic Mexican and some unique dishes, with a terrific sunset viewing deck. They have an amazing happy hour from 3-6 PM (bar area only) with a nice assortment of appetizer dishes and very, very good Marguertias. I would reco you call in advance 9as it gets very busy) and reserve the deck for 6:30 seating, then go early to the Happy Hour for the appetizer and drink specials so you get the best of both. They have a really unique Meat Loaf dish, the Big "Butt" Burger is just what it's name states, and the stuffed Relanos are delicious.
All their offerings are reasonable in price, and all in all a nice place to Dine.....

“a happy hour that made us happy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Went to happy hour and we were very happy that we did. Very upbeat staff and quick with answers about the menu. We were served by the bartender himself so questions about the drinks were followed by recommendations. Among the drinks we had were prickly pear margarita and mango margarita. Each was frozen and hit the spot on a warm spring day. Refreshing and very tall icy concoctions I would like to have regularly. Highly recommend. We tried each of the happy hour plates which totalled 6. All were generous portions good enough to share each plate with three people. The tortuga tacitos was our favorite which were like tasty chicken egg rolls with two dipping sauces, hot and mild. We have been here more than a few times and bring guests here. The staff makes us feel very welcome and their smiles and attention made our day. Happy hour prices are half the usual. Usually there for dinner which is delicious always but I will think of this place for happy hour. The decor is very attractive and it is located in the Pedregal which is an upscale shopping venue owned by the Boulders Resort. Totally a class act and really representative of the real Arizona and not a flimsy facsimile. Tourists are treated like locals here with a friendly vibe. Southwest style food at its most favorful and best.
