We arrived mid morning, having just been travelling for 15 hours, to find that our villa would not be ready until 4pm. As we were very tired and hoping for a shower and change of clothes, we asked to borrow a room for a short time. This was refused fairly bluntly and we ended up having to hire a hire a room for 24 hours at the full day rate, just to freshen up. This, we considered, was downright unfriendly and a bad start to the holiday.
The villa, number 29, was very spacious, clean and cool. The kitchen was well equipped, with appliances that were either brand new or in very good condition. There were 4 double bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, plenty of space for 8 people. We were a little disappointed in the decor - had been hoping for southwestern style but got lots of steel and glass. The best features were the view over the lake and golf courses, also the abundance of wildlife around the property - rabbits, herons, families of quail, water birds. We spent early mornings sitting on the patio, admiring the view and watching hummingbirds visiting a bird feeder.
The resort offers a number of facilities such as a pool, gym, tennis courts etc which you pay $9 a day for whether you want them or not. The pool was closed for three days for repairs. The surrounding gardens were beautiful and very well kept. The resort restaurant, the Pinon Grill, is good but expensive. There was no vegetarian option on the menu for one of our party. It was resolved in the end, but only with a very simple salad. We liked the Diamondback bar, which was cool, classy and comfortable, and highly recommend the Prickly Pear Margarita.
Most of the staff were great, particularly the Diamondback bar staff and the poolside bar staff. The housekeeping staff were incredibly fast and efficient. The guys who looked after the forecourt and entrance area were very helpful and friendly. The reception staff did their jobs well enough but right from the start seemed uninterested in being friendly or helpful.
Overall: this was our second visit to the Millennium Resort. We had a great time, but somehow didn't feel valued as customers and probably won't stay there again.
