“Great mid-century hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

Perhaps the most attractive mid-century style hotel I have ever stayed at which featured one of the best rooms I have ever stayed in. Think Lucy and Ricky go to Hollywood meets all of the 21st century conveniences. Only down side was some loud drunken folk by the pool but that did not greatly diminish the experience. Great friendly staff enhanced the experience.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool costs more and can be nosy, especially with weekend DJ's.

Green Features: The maids did not understand our request to recycle.

I'm sorry that some of the guests at the pool acted inappropriately. It can be more lively when we have entertainment at the main pool on summer weekends, and it tends to be quieter on weekdays and all week in the non-summer months. We also added a new OHasis Pool that's ideal for relaxing. I apologize that the housekeepers weren't able to understand you. Recycling is sorted out from trash after it is collected from the guest rooms. We hope to see you again!

I called to make my reservation and told them I had friends in the area that were going to come hang out. I was told if anyone else wanted to stay in our room it was $25/person. I asked what for...they said towels. Seriously? At check in I'm told they can't come hang out at the pool. I even paid extra to have a pool side room. We changed rooms to be closer to the other pool which was like swimming in bath water and didn't even get a refund. And I'm still trying to figure out why I have an extra $100 charge. Not worth it at all unless you are a Greek life partier and want to pay to listen to a Dj at a pool.

Jacqui R.,
We appreciate your review of Hotel Valley Ho on Trip Advisor and would like to take a moment to respond to your comments. In regards to the extra person fee, most hotels and resorts price accommodations for either single or double occupancy, and require an additional occupant fee nightly, for added guests above double occupancy. This fee is in place for several reasons, not just towels, so I apologize if this wasn't communicated more clearly. This fee assists in covering the added use of toiletries, linens, towels, and use of amenities such as the fitness center, in-room coffee, spa locker rooms, pool towels, and the overall expenses of having more occupants in a guest room using the hotels services and amenities.
Since our main pool hosts entertainment on weekends and is very popular during the summer months, we have to control the amount of occupants by only allowing hotel registered guests admittance to that specific area. If this policy was not in place, the pool area would become overcrowded and our guests would be challenged to find seating and enjoy the amenity as intended.
You noted changing room types, which our records do indicate, the switch was to an equally priced room type, so we are confused by your comment about not getting a refund? The pool water temperature can be warm in the summer, this is due to outdoor temperatures in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area reaching over 110 degrees during your stay.
The charge for $100 noted in your review is not a charge, it is an authorization. This amount reverses automatically after check-out and that timeframe for release varies based on your financial institutions policies. Our hotel authorizes the nightly room rate, tax, and $100 per day. This varies by hotel/resort, but it is a standard practice at a majority of full-service properties. This fee, which is noted during the registeration process and on the registration card, is to cover the estimated/potential charges incurred during a stay. For example, mini-bar charges, phone calls, spa services, food and beverage, or anything that can be billed back to the guest room. The hotel has to ensure that the funds are available should those types of charges be made. If this authorization has not released with 72 hours of your departure, we recommend calling your bank to ask when it will release as the hotel automatically releases the hold upon your departure and the satisfaction of the final bill.
We are sorry if you did not enjoy the pool entertainment, but we do offer two pool areas, the second pool is more of quiet enjoyment area, a good alternative to the lively OH Pool area.
We hope this answers each of your concerns, if not, please feel free to contact us directly.

Was a little hesitant before booking because you never know what they are sacrificing just to be 'trendy'...my fears were unfounded as this is a very cool hotel with an attention to detail! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very nicely decorated as well as spacious. Great balcony with sliding glass doors. The location is in 'Oldtown Scottsdale' is ideal. Didn't get a chance to use the pool (they also have a 'lap' pool) but the pool area looked very attractive and well-maintained.

Thank you for your feedback! The hotel was built in 1956, in the mid-century-modern style. It's really the best architectural style to see in Phoenix and Scottsdale. We're very passionate about that type of design, and worked hard to restore the hotel to that style. It's definitely not about being trendy for us, but rather honoring the original design, and creating a fun, welcoming place. We hope to see you again one day!

Just stayed there over the weekend on business. Great concept and really enjoyed the room. The staff were very friendly and eager to help. This hotel is known for its weekend pool parties. So it may not be for someone looking for quiet relation. If you want to be around a fun crowd this is the place. I would come back again.

We appreciate your review! In the summer, we do have a live band at the OH Pool on Fridays (already concluded), and a DJ on Saturdays. The pool and hotel tend to be quieter on summer weekdays, and in non-summer months. We also added a new relaxation pool. We hope we'll see you again one day!

I have stayed at this hotel for events, on business travel, and just stayed the weekend as a stay-cation get-away. The hotels location, Oldtown Scottsdale, is top notch, but it is the Team Members that always make the difference each and every time I've stayed here. The Housekeepers are just as friendly as the Valet and Front Desk Staff. That is remarkable. The "norm" in a hotel, to my experiences, is to have housekeeping ignore or hide from any sort of interaction, but the Valley Ho Housekeepers look at you, smile and make a pleasant greeting. I will definitely return, hopefully its for pleasure and not just business!

Room Tip: If you plan to spend the majority of your time at the pool, then spend for the Cabana King. If roma...

Perfect stay. Desk staff, restaurant and spa staff are all amazing, really friendly, helpful and accommodating, and seem to genuinely want you to be happy. Delicious food at ZuZu. Pool scene is fun and happy, even in sweltering July heat. Complimentary Red Flower soap, lotion, bath gel, shampoo and conditioner are fantastic. Don't hesitate to book this place.
