We went to Grimaldi's on a weekday around 4 p.m. Our party consisted of 4 adults and toddler twins. Upon opening the door, you are hit with the smell of pizza baking in a coal-fired oven. Our first impression was that the place was very child-friendly. The hostess offered to watch our stroller. When we were seated, the waitress showed up promptly and offered to bring some dough for the twins to play with. The restaurant only has Pepsi products--just an FYI for those of you who prefer Coke.
We started the meal with a large antipasto. The menu was the same as the Hoboken Grimaldi's--it's my understanding that the Brooklyn one only offers pizza on the menu. The antipasto was excellent! It consisted of very high quality fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, salami, green olives and black olives. We got two small pizzas--one plain cheese and the other with pepperoni and garlic. The pizza was just like what we had in Hoboken. Thin hand-tossed crust with the char found on pizzas that are baked in coal-fired ovens, bits of fresh basil, fresh mozzarella and the same delicious tomato sauce.
We all enjoyed eating at Grimaldi's. Not only for the pizza but for the friendly and prompt service. I highly recommend going here for a true taste of NYC pizza!
