“Disappointed after a favorable recommendation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

A friend who lives in Scottsdale recommended this place for their food and atmosphere and neither were high on my list. First of all, it's in a giant mall which detracts from the ambiance. We were seated promptly in a small area outside the restaurant and in the mall, which was kind of fun for people-watching, but the food experience was still lacking. Bland burgers, tastless tacos, and a strange fish taco that was more of an Asian fish wrap in a flour tortilla and overpowering dipping sauce. The pepita chicken salad was ok as were the Santa Fe enchiladas, but overall nothing was very memorable. They did have a nice make-your-own bloody mary bar and the service was excellent, but I would not go to this location for the food.

“Great happy hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

The margarita topped with Grand Marnier is quite good. (You're limited to 3). They have a separate happy hour menu which is very reasonable. I've been here many times.

“Great food and nice atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

I was in Phoenix for a business meeting and our group of 6 went to dinner at Z'Tejas in Scottsdale. It is a multistory facility located at an upscale mall. There was outdoor seating and a bar at the top with restaurant seating lower down. Very interesting menu and reasonably priced for what you got. I had the smoked chicken chile relleno, which had a nice blend of seasonings and sauces and came in a large poblano pepper that was baked, not fried so not greasy as chile rellenos often can be. Food was great, service was good and everyone had an excellent time. Great place for a nice dinner with an interesting menu that is different from other places.

“A Grilled Cheese Review?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

I've been going to Z'Tejas for many years and have usually stuck with a few of my favorites, but decided to venture out and try the Grown Up Grilled Cheese with Beef Barbacoa at lunch. OMG. This is absolutely the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had in my life and it's not even close. The bread was crisp and flavorful, the cheeses blended superbly and the beef was the perfect compliment to put it all together. Next time you go to Z'Tejas, check it out!

“OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

In the Fashion Square mall. Bar area upstairs is high energy and crowded, dining area on lower level is quieter with no TV sports to intrude.

Cornbread is excellent and we took home what we couldn't finish. She had the smoked chicken chile relleno which did not have the fried batter coating and was a better dish because of it. I had the green chile barbacoa which was OK but not exceptional.

All in all an OK place to eat but nothing special.
