“Enjoyed the Pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

Yes, you have to wait to get in. And, it is noisy. Having said that, you plan in advance because it is worth the wait. Great pizza, huge salads, and a noisy atmosphere all combined for a great night out. If you want a quiet romantic atmosphere, this isn't the place, but if you love thin crust pizza, this will do just fine. And, it's less noisy outside. Service was great!

“Value for your dollar!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

4 of us in town for the Phoenix Open dined 4 nights at Oreganos on Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale AZ. We all could not get over the portion sizes of the salads. The menu items we tried included the soup, several appetizers, several pizzas, and pastas topped off with drinks. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and delicious!!!The service from Pedro and Justin was top notch! Thank you Justin for the amazing gift of dessert. And Thank you Mr Manager for greeting us and making us feel
at home!!! Best wishes for your expansion! We will wait patiently for you in Canada!

“Loud and overcrowded=long waits and slow service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

First time to any Oregano's.
The menu includes more than just pizza, but we decided to try the Chicago Thin Crust Numero Uno. Nice thin crust which allows the toppings to be tasted instead of the bready crust. Pizza sizes: 12'',16'', and 18''. Our 16-incher was more than enough for the two of us. Portions were generous and we had some to take home. This is always good since refrigerated cold pizza is a favorite at home. Additional toppings, other than those listed as included are $1.59-1.89 each. Other diners around us had meals, not just pizza, and said that everything tasted as good as it looked.
We visited on a Saturday night; us and just about everyone else. We didn't have reservations since this was a spur of the moment thing. Minimum wait for a table inside (since it was chilly outside) was 30-35 minutes. The hostess said we could be seated at the full-service bar and order dinner there, if we did not wish to wait for the table. We opted to do this, thinking that we would move when the table opened up. The bartender asked that we close out at the bar if we did this. When they did call us for our table, it was near the front, which was windy and cold when the door opened. So we elected to stay at the bar. It's full service and pours anything one should want.
Those around us who ordered dinners after we did got their food some time ahead of us. Not sure if this was because the pizza took longer to make or if our order had gotten delayed getting to the kitchen. It felt like it was being imported from Italy. We were quite hungry when we arrived, but we waited so long for the food that by the time it was served, we weren't hungry anymore, just tired. The restaurant quickly filled up and they were quite busy. People stood behind us at the bar, waiting for their drinks and waiting to be seated, This added to the feeling of claustrophobia. We did notice that there was no delay getting the drinks out, but the food took much longer. I hope this was just due to a busy kitchen rather than wanting people to drink more while they were waiting. The pizza was good, but not worth that wait. And I wasn't thrilled with eating at the bar after all. The person seated next to us had several friends join him and they all stood just behind our barstools, talking and drinking. This left us feeling crowded and trapped.

Oregano's is not quiet. If one goes there for that, then they did not go to the right place. The canned music just blares from the speakers, and people must talk louder to be heard over it. The bar TV was showing Black and White 50's reruns, (of the Ozzy and Harriet television series) but the sound was thankfully muted. The bar opens to the outdoor seating area, which in this restaurant, faces a busy street with lots of loud traffic. Conversation was not quite impossible but it was difficult to be heard over the noise, as people have to talk louder than the music.

Oregano's, at least this one, is 50's themed, from the television programming, and the decor, down to the old-fashioned typewriter font with which the menu was printed.

The restrooms are well-stocked, clean, well-lit, and decorated with interesting magazine covers and articles from the 50's era. But the music is even louder in there, and I had to finish quickly and leave as it became painfully loud. One goes through the kitchen service area to reach the restrooms. This leads to congestion between the servers and the people, most of whom look lost, trying to find the restrooms.
.
There is free-off-street parking and almost enough of it. We waited for someone to back out to open a place and other drivers made more than one circuit to find a spot. We arrived just after six, along with much of the rest of the city, it seemed.

There were families with small children in the outside seating area, but I wouldn't recommend this place for families. It's much too loud and crowded for that.

Since this was our first visit to any Oregano's, we might consider going back but certainly not on a Saturday night at the dinner hour. Noonish on a week-day might be better, and a different location, as this one is downtown Scottsdale.

“Great place for Salad and pizza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

Excellent service. We had a wonderful big salad to share for less than $10 that had great generous toppings. The thin crust pizza was very good too. I would go back!
