I recently took my 6 and 8 year old to a family vacation to meet 20 of their aunts, uncles, and cousins. We had an absolute blast! Our family stayed in a 2-bedroom lock-off with my parents-in-law. When you choose the lock off option, one side has a larger bedroom/bathroom and full kitchen, while the other side has a somewhat smaller version of everything, including a smaller kitchen with a mini-fridge. However, everything is perfectly clean and impeccably decorated. The smaller side of the lock off also had a jetted bathtub, which was nice.
To begin with, you are greeted by an amazing front staff. Scott made us feel more like friends than guests. He can truly arrange anything for you. His tips on what to see are perfect too. Thanks for the tip on seeing Sedona, Scott! It was our favorite part of our detour!
You also need to know that on Mondays, a great breakfast spread is downstairs just off the lobby. Each activity you might be interested in throughout the week takes one minute to give a spiel about their activities. Those discussed include the spa, excursions out into the desert, Grand Canyon tours, hot air balloon rides, etc. It's really worth your time if you think you might be interested in any of the activities. Some of our group took the Grand Canyon tour while others of us adventured out on our own. The Grand Canyon tour group was very satisfied with their trip.
The villas are such a destination in themselves, you really never have to plan on leaving them if you don't want to. They have two fabulous pools, one quiet pool with the sound of running water and plenty of sun or shade, and one family pool, complete with an awesome slide, water volleyball net and plenty of activities planned throughout the day. The Kierland Commons is accessible via free shuttle service and has great shopping and dining (I'd highly recommend the restaurant North). Even if you don't leave the villas, there are plenty of picnic areas with very nice grills set up, a great laid back place for families to sit back and watch the kids run around. Golf is just a short stroll away, and restaurants are plentiful between the villas and the hotel. The gym is nice. It's not huge, but very adequately equipped and has modern, well-kept equipment.
My husband and I attended the optional buy-in presentation for the first time this trip. It was ok, but if you're not really interested in buying, the pressure might not be your favorite part of this trip.
Overall, we're already planning on visiting again. It's just that great.
