Our family of four, including two children 2 and 5 year old, spent eight nights in September in the Westin Kierland. We found it an excellent place to have a relaxing family vacation. We had a one-bedroom suite overlooking the golf course. The suite consists of a room with a kingsoze bed and a room with a pullout sofa. So that our children won't have to share the sofa, we asked for a rollaway, which was brought to our room in no time and was free of charge. The rooms are in very good shape and as the rest of the hotel very clean. The suite has two bathrooms, one with bathtub and separate shower, the other one with only a shower, but both are adequate in size. The pool area is also clean and very well maintained, with plenty of loungers. Even during labour day weekend, when the place seemed packed, there was no shortage of loungers, even though more umbrellas would have been nice. Pool service was friendly and efficient. The lazy river was the hit with our children, the slide is too fast for little children and I absolutely can't understand why the little ones are not allowed to ride in their parents lap. We had lots of crying due to this. We regularly had breakfast at Nelly's. The buffet is very good, they even have breakfast items such as cured ham, salami and various cheeses (not just cheddar and mozzarella), which please the continental European taste. The waiters where very kind and didn't mind to fulfill special requests, such as dry toast and warm milk for the children's cereals, which was a big problem in various other hotels. The buffet is 17$ plus tax, children eat free. Parking is no problem. There is either valet parking at 18$ (overnight) and 3$ during the day or a huge free parking lot at about 150 yards from the lobby. Upon arrival, we were allowed to park the car at the main entrance, to unload the the luggage. Also, walking distances within the building are by far not as bad as mentioned by other reviewers. Some rooms are just by pool, some are further away, maybe a maximum of 250 yards, but if someone wants parking and pool right infront of the door, people should book Motel 6. Overall, the staff was extremely friendly, always smiling, always asking whether everything is all right. We checked in on labour day weekend, there was no queue at checking-in.
We were never bothered by time-sharing people, though there were leaflets about time-sharing sessions all over the place, they paid 100$ to attend a session. We also took a look at the Kids club, which is well equipped, but got a feeling that they don't do that much with the children and that our children would eventually end up infront of the TV set. At about 5 minutes walking distance (the hotel also provides a free shuttle service) are the Kierland Commons, an upmarket shopping area. They have some nice restaurant (P.F. Chang was our favourite) and a variety of nice shops, among them a Borders bookstore. Unfortunately shops close early at night (8.00 p.m). To cut a long way short, we had a very relaxing vacation in a nice hotel and we hope that we can go there again.
