“Nickelled and dimed, but still a good time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

I stayed in a standard double room at this property from July 9-13 in order to attend a business conference. The property is absolutely beautiful, with amazing service and wonderful staff. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the decor was lovely. I was a little surprised that the beds were only doubles and not queens. I had never encountered that in a hotel before, and I definitely didn't expect that from a hotel as high caliber as this one. Still, the beds were very comfortable and as long as you don't have to share, the double bed is adequate. My biggest frustration with this resort had more to do with all the hidden costs than anything. There was no complimentary shuttle from the airport, but the hotel will provide transportation for approximately $50 each way. (Parking at the resort IS free, however, so we opted to rent a car instead, which ended up being a great choice. Scottsdale is a very easy city to maneuver around, and we loved having the freedom to leave the resort to go shopping and check out the sights.) Wifi is provided free of charge in the lobby, but if you want access in your room, it's going to cost you $12/day. And, if you think that's bad, the wifi in the conference area is three times that! These rates seem exorbitant given that you can get free wifi in almost every coffee shop in North America, and even most budget hotels offer this complimentary service. It annoyed me to have to pay for it. I also found the pubs and restaurants on site very pricey, and opted not to eat there. Instead, (thanks to the rental car) we checked out some great local restaurants and some of the better chain restaurants that are also nearby. Other than these small complaints, I had a great stay. The conference facilities were wonderful, the meals at the conference were good, and the coffee shop was a very welcome sight each morning. I enjoyed both swimming pools and loved the lazy river! In short, this is not a resort for the budget-minded traveller, but it's certainly a very nice property.

Room Tip: This is a huge resort and you can expect a LONG walk from the elevators to your room. Make sure you...

Green Features: The resort has a program that gives you a $5 credit for every day that you don't have your room serviced. You can use the credits towards purchases at any of the restaurants or shops on the property. It's a nice touch for someone like me who doesn't need daily housekeeping.

After deciding I needed a vacation, I chose to go to the Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, AZ during August. Though the temperature was above 100 most days, I had an awesome time. The entire staff are friendly and certainly know what customer service means! There are numerous pools, including a lazy river and a serenity adult only pool. The grounds have beautiful flowers and plants throughout. Interspersed on the grounds are numerous fire pits, hammocks and conversation areas. Most nights showcase a bagpipe player during the setting of the sun. Though I came here with my husband, it's also a family destination!

Room Tip: Not a bad room on the property, though the rooms overlooking the golf course are amazing.

Wife and I booked a room for the weekend as our employers holiday party was being held nearby at the Fairmont (formerly Princess resort), and we were upgraded to a one bedroom villa! What a great place to stay; the view was fantastic (we were just off one of the golf courses) and the accomodations were five star all the way. The bedding was fantastic, the staff eager to please at every opportunity. We dined in Deseo too, and the food was as good as expected, albeit I found the service to be a bit stuffy and pretentious really. Whatevs. We send members of our travel club here all the time and hear back from them how great a time they had, now we have an opinion of our own and it jives with everything we've been told by our friends who had been before us. Next time, we may even bring the kids, this looks to be an amazing resort for families also.

Room Tip: Our villa was on the perimeter of the resort, and in fact required valet to bring around a cart to g...

the rooms were clean and large enough for me. the view of the property was beautiful, sitting outside with a cold drink and enjoying the evening was enjoyable. the decor by local artists was a great touch as well as having some of the local wildlife to see in the lobby. the scotch/whiskey choices and the wine menu were nothing short of glorious. loved my stay.

We stayed at the westin kierland for a 4 days staycation in July. We stay there all the time, but this was the first time that we were there during a weekend. It was perfect, so many fun things to do. The check in was fast and efficient, we got a view upgrade for being a returning guest. My daughter ( 6 years old) loved watching the snakes getting fed, it was also a learning experience ( friday mornings). We loved the fun department at the westin, the people that worked there seemed to really enjoy their job. We liked the lady at the mining place were we get the lanyards and the pins ( a must do when u have kids). The fun manager was also very kind, he gave Alessandra a fun duck. ( Thank u). We did all the fun free pool activities for kids, and also the ones with a small fee ( like pottery painting, painting a backpack, and stuff a buddy), we loved the smores at night , super fun and yummy. We enjoyed the barbecue and music at night by the pool, the food truck Friday's was a fun alternative for a casual dinner. My husband took advantage of the flow rider , while I float around the lazy river with my daughter and her grandmother. We really enjoyed listening to the bagpipes and later on , listening to the guy singing outside the lobby. On the first day we were surprised with a yummy appetizer waiting for us in our room with a lovely note by Amanda Gow ( thank u), very thoughtful, nice touch. We really enjoyed tippy's presentation for the phoenix zoo. Our stay was flawless, with superb customer service, breathtaking grounds, yummy food ( yummy dessert table by lobby area), and above all super fun and inviting team, that get us to come over and over every summer. Well done. Thank u for all the good times ( thank u fun team, thank u Amanda gow) . The Sampson family

Staycation weekend.. Deseo was closed (although last time we went there the service was bad, food good) Concierge was awesome- as was the bartender, Donnie. But staff in spa /kiosk should have been informed regarding menu options. Housekeepers were very loud outside of our room, pool food service was slow ( due to only one server) and when you are competing in a resort town your service should harmonize with the beauty of the resort. Many of the staff members didn’t live up to star wood resort quality.

Green Features: Loved how they served water pitchers at the pool and had filling stations throughout the hotel

I was here for a conference aug 2014. Generally, it's a very nice hotel, and I didn't have any real issues at all. I was by myself (no family), and attended a company function. The conference staff did a nice job, the food was better than what we usually get at these things, and the staff was friendly without being overbearing. (I recently went to one hotel, and every single staff member greeted you -taking a walk around the hotel was annoying!). Anyway, I digress... Not at the Westin.

Note that if you're attending a conference, ask for a room in the main building - my room was "overlooking the pool", which really means that its a 2 mile walk to your room from the elevator.

Overlooking the pool would be great if you bring your kids here, as you're closer to the pool (its a 2-story extension to the hotel), and you don't have to ride the elevator to get to the pool. However, like I said, for attending a conference, ask for something closer to the elevator or on a high floor so that you don't have to walk to the conference at the far end of the hotel.

It's nice that this hotel is across the street from a small mall, where there are several nice restaurants and bars. It was welcome to leave the property occasionally.

I didn't find time to use the pool, but it looked great!

Room Tip: Conference goers should ask for a room close to lobby elevators, families would want to be in the po...
