“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

I went to the hotel for business and brought my wife because the property seemed to offer so much. I was not disappointed with any aspect of my stay. As a participant at a convention the facility and support staff were grade A.
The hotel is in the middle of a great area with plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.
I have to give props to the concierges who were so helpful in providing maps for my excercise runs, making restaurants reservations and tips for area shopping.
My wife took advantage of the spa and pool and had nothing but good things to say.
The room was very comfortable and business friendly.

There are so many things that are really great about this hotel. The interior and exterior design, the location, the grounds, the view northward (south is the parking lot), the restaurants and the rooms are first class and make you want to recommend this hotel. The rooms are well laid out with a nice lanai to have coffee in the morning. The bath has a separate shower from the tub which is a nice feature. The wifi which is part of the resort fee was good for email and such. It would be nice to have an extra outlet at the desk for charging pc, phones, etc.
The thing that wants me to never come back is the front desk and the housekeeping. Specifically we had 2 reservations for back to back stays due to rate/offer changes. So technically we checked out of the hotel on day 1 and returned for day 2 and 3. So the housekeeping issue is at 8:30 on day one we get a knock on the door, at 9:30 we get a knock on the door each time expecting us to be out of the hotel. Regardless of our other stay we had until 12 to depart. In the second reservation we had the same thing happen with a 4PM check out, but this time 8:30,9:30, 11, 1:30, 3, 3:30 and 3:45. So this is a housekeeping management issue. The rooms were perfectly clean with no issues. BUT WE DID NOT NEED THE HINTS TO LEAVE!
The front end also had issues, initially not linking our 2 reservations after being told they did it. Asking for a 4 PM check out, which if available is a Gold feature, being told Gold gets only a 2PM checkout. We corrected the person twice where he said I guess you are right and "changed "the check out to 4PM. We decided to double check and found out there was no late check out entered via service express. We go down and ask again. This time we are given it but our keys were not reprogrammed so we were locked out on our last afternoon. The checkout was confusing since the 2 bills were charged separately via the email then added together at the end. Credits were not entered correctly as well. And we waited a while with only 2 people generally at the desk at peak times. So if the staff issues were solved this would have been a great stay.
Last point is that Deseo Restaurant is Fantastic, best in Scottsdale.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience. Although we are happy to hear that you were pleased with the resort itself, we understand that this makes up only part of a guest's overall experience, and in your case the challenges with the service made you feel differently about our resort as a whole. We appreciate your feedback and can assure you that your review will be shared with our management teams. We strive to exceed our guest expectations and we are sorry that this wasn't the case with your October stay. We sincerely hope that you will choose to stay with us in the future, not only to enjoy deseo again, but to give us another opportunity to offer you a wonderful Kierland stay. Thank you for being a valued Starwood Preferred Guest.

What a stunning place. We arrived and were immediately conveyed through to reception to check in, no queing, prompt efficient and friendly service. Our room over looked the glorious golf course. This stay was part of my birthday trip and we couldnt have picked a better place to stay. The beds were so comfortable that I didnt want to get out of them, coffee maker in the room with Starbucks coffee, free bottled water. We went to the pool which was beautiful, comfortable sunbeds, a slide for the kids and a 'lazy river' for all. We grabbed the big rubber rings and floated around the lazy river giggling like a pair of big kids. The staff at the pool were super friendly too, very chatty and approachable. As we got back to our room I found a plate with chocolate dipped strawberries and other treats waiting for me as well as a birthday card from the manager. All organised by my fantastic hubby. It just made the stay feel so very special. The piper played at sunset which was a nice touch and in the evening we sat around the firepit and drank cocktails and chatted to our fellow guests. No one had a bad word to say about the place. I must mention the breakfast which was included in the price. I wondered as it was included if it would be the bog standard 'buffet' (meats and cheeses etc). Let me tell you, nothing is 'bog standard' about it...the food was fresh, tasty and of excellent quality. Thinking of booking a hotel anywhere else in the area...DON'T.... with shops and restaurants litterally across the road from this amazing place you will regret going anywhere else.

This was just an overnight stop. We had driven from Grand Canyon and we were flying to New York early the next day. So no opportunity to try the Spa.

This was the most opulent/luxurious hotel I have stayed in. But what made it "the best" was the unforced and natural friendliness and helpfulness of every single staff member we encountered during our short stay - reception, doorman, concierge, chef, waitress,..

And I loved hearing the piper on the golf course at 6.00.

The doorman seemed a little taken aback when I tried to express how exceptional I thought the hotel was.

I stayed at this resort for a conference in May. I'm not a "spa" person, so this review is from the standpoint of someone who's at the resort for business. The food is great (although the desert bar setup in the lobby was a bit of a test of will to walk past each evening). The common areas were large, homey and elegant. The staff was helpful. Like most conference centers, they keep the temperature in the conference rooms was cold enough to hang meat, but they were also clean, comfortable and conducive to thinking and working. Like many of these resorts, it's sprawling and getting to your room feels like you need a GPS navigation system, but the rooms are clean, comfortable and elegant.

Outside the pool is an actual lap pool, there's a water park area with a significant "lazy river" to float around in, the golf course has cart paths that can be used as walking or jogging routes early in the morning. The air in the desert is incredibly dry (perfect for me). Afternoon temps every day were over 100, but with the humidity so low if felt like the low to mid 80s in the midwest.

This is a top tier resort. The staff is excellent and the resort is exceptionally well maintained. I would highly recommend this resort for any occasion. It is also in a great location with dining and shopping a short walk across the parking lot. Great experience on all levels and I hope to have many more events at this great property.

Finally a resort that offers more than the expected. Most resorts have a pool - waterslide - they don't have this. While there is a minimal fee to enjoy - completely worth it!

Since we are AAA members we got a really great rate and it's uber close to everything we enjoyed during our trip.
