“Magnificent resort in the AZ desert”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

What a great place to stay! We spent 4 nights as a couple and we loved every second of it, from the greeting to our check-out, everything was perfect.

We had the choice of rooms with different views and we chose a view on the big pool/lazy river. Very nice! The room was spotless, bed was comfortable and the Internet access was bundled in a daily "service" charge that also gives you access to the pool, sauna, etc.

We had dinner on the terrasse every night, watching the sunset and listening to the bagpiper play. What a romantic setting! Extra points with my wife!

All in all, wans't the least expensive place around but I got plenty for my money.

Room Tip: Ask for a view on the big pool or the golf course, 3rd floor and above

Overall this is a wonderful property that I would happily return to. The rooms are quite comfortable, particularly with views of the golf course. Our room was categorized as a golf course view but only if you leaned out over the balcony and turned your head. Other rooms have wonderful views though. The pool area is nice with plenty of room. There is a winding river to tube down and a decent poolside restaurant. There is also an adult-only pool for more quite. The spa is nice but know that dollars spent at the spa will not accrue SPG points. This was a big disappointment as the treatment prices are not inexpensive. We used points for the stay, which I would do again. I would pay though if I were going on a golf vacation. I just would not use the spa. Like all high-end Starwood properties there is a timeshare sales presence at this hotel. It is not difficult to avoid though. Enjoy your stay.

A wonderful resort hotel with delightful, caring staff. BUT - the so called "fine dining" is anything but! A small leathery steak at $35 (no vegetables - served on a white plate solo, lonely!) was returned to the kitchen and the Sea Bass that was served to me was not raw. And for this expensive aggravation the tab was in excess of $100 INCLUDING a 18% auto tip. This hotel needs dining - period! It used to be great - comfort food, hambugers and other attractive and tempting menu items. The new GM should follow the lead of his predecessor.

Room Tip: All rooms have a pool view or a bay view. Enchanting.

We stayed at the hotel for fourteen glorious days and nights in October 2011. The room was very generous in size and comfort. Housekeeping was excellent. Service all around was terrific. Included was a very convenient shuttle (with a wheelchair lift!!!) to and from "the Commons" & "Scottsdale Quarter" for great shopping and plenty of restaurants. Bagpipes played every evening overlooking the beautiful golf course fairways amongst a choice of two fire pits. Really a terrific setting. Self contained, but a car would be needed to see the rest of Phoenix area. Spotless. Top notch. Hope to go again and again. Even the locals come to this hotel to relax in the evenings.

Picture this: Dusk in the dessert. A grand patio space with tables and comfortable seating to gaze at the sunset. Fire pits. A perfect cocktail. A Scottish bagpiper. That's the nightly experience at the Westin Kierland. Add to that a tranquil spa; a pool with a lazy river; 27 holes of golf; and excellent, creative cuisine and you've got the recipe for an exceptional, 5-star resort. Probably the most interesting fact about this hotel is its location smack in the middle of the upscale suburb of Scottsdale. Yet once you drive into its lengthy, tree-lined entrance, you would never know that you are within walking distance of a shopping mall, albeit an upscale, lushly landscaped one. With a friendly staff and all the amenities, the Westin Kierland is hard to beat.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms face the grand patio or golf course.

Our family of five stayed two nights at this beautiful resort. The kids had a blast in the lazy river pool. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The housekeeping was especially understanding and sweet with our children. They kept assuring us that with three young children, a room is going to get messy. I highly recommend this resort to other families looking for a nice place to stay that is family friendly.

My husband attended a conference Oct 8 - 12 at the Westin. The conference rooms are large and nicely appointed with beautiful light fixtures throughout: Arizona with an art deco twist. I had an opportunity to try the spa. I'd recommend a pedicure and relaxation (Swedish) massage. The therapists are very friendly and professional and the spa facilites include large personal shower rooms, whirpool tub, fitness center and outdoor adult pool with waiters and fluffy towels. The kids have their own pool with lazy river and a play area that looked fun, but very hot - concrete with an awning. The tennis courts are cement, but the golf course was nestled in picturesque desert hills. The golf course restaurant is a great place for lunch. Make sure to take advantage of the concierge service.

Room Tip: A king room in the main building are the most convenient and comfortable.
