“Nice place, but.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2006

My husband and I stayed here for a week, Oct 6-13th. We are Marriott timeshare owners, and exchanged for a week into the Villa Mirage, because we were assured it was also considered a "5-star" property.
Well, it definitely is not. The rooms are decorated nicely, there is a so-so amount of space, and the single pool was "nice." But that's just it - everything was nice, but there were not the extras or "WOW's" that you should have for a top rated resort. Just having one pool for so many units was not enough. There is a large multi-person jacuzzi by the pool though, as well as a kiddie pool and water fountain/water jets area for the kids to run through. But the activities were only aimed at kids or families, and as a couple on our own, it left us with very little to do.
There was no bar or pleasant casual eating area, but a tiny snack bar with limited breakfast & lunch. There are two tennis courts, and those seemed to be used a lot. Also, two work-out rooms nicely equipped.

There were only two or three picnic table areas, with a few barbecues. All in all, not enough facilities for the amount of villas in the place. We had a one-bedroom villa - nicely furnished, but would have felt crowded with the two more that are suggested to sleep on the sofa. Nice large bathroom, though, and lovely balcony. The best thing about the Villa Mirage was the complete cleanliness of everything. We needed extra hangers, and they were brought quickly and with a smile. When both flourescent bathroom bulbs burned out around 7:00 on a Sunday night, they were there to replace them just as we were leaving for dinner.

Overall - "nice", but should have more to do, and more upscale furnishings, to have been rated 5 stars by the Interval International and RCI books.

  • Liked — Cleanliness, homey accommodations with great balcony
  • Disliked — Not enough features to make it a top resort; needed some sort of bar/restaurant
  • Tips/Secrets — No more than 4-5 people in a 2-bedroom, and only 2 in the smaller units.

Just got back yesterday from the Sunterra Villa Mirage in Scottsdale and it was awesome. We had a party of 8 and had a 2 bedroom suite on the 3rd floor facing the adult spa jacuzzi. the room was very nicely spaced out and it was very private and accomodating. I highly recommend the 3rd floor for great views and privacy. We didnt mind the stairs, actually for most of the people in our party, the stairs served as their only exercise!!! HA! Very, very clean resort with nice amenities. Used the exercise facility (bigger weight room & smaller cardio area).

Also, the location was great! Near the beautiful mountains and right next door to the Scottsdale Princess - a class act resort...very expensive. We went over to their pool once, what a beautiful place...its a must see! Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be returning!

  • Liked — The spaciousness of the room
  • Disliked — no restuarant or lounge

This hotel was clean, but there were two major issues we had with it. One was that from the time we arrived they attempted to talk us into taking a 90 minute time share seminar and they would not let up after we refused the offer. They phoned our room twice after the initial sales pitch when we arrived to ask what time we wanted to attend the seminar. Our other complaint is that it was very noisy and crowded. Bottom line, it was adequate, but costly for what you receive...minus the sales pitch.

Would definitely visit Sunterra Village Mirage again. Teenagers (11,13,15) really enjoyed the pool. Spent hours and hours in the pool. Friendly staff. Clean accomodations. Very nice.

We just returned from our trip to Arizona, where we stayed at the Villa Mirage for a few nights. We rented one of their 1 bedroom suites and absolutely loved it. The hotel is very clean, has lots of amenities (except a restaurant on premises) and is very quiet. All their employees, from the receptionist to the activities coordinators are very friendly and accomodating. On our next visit to Scottsdale, we will definitely stay at the Villa Mirage again!

We have stayed at Villa Mirage for 5 nights during spring break. There were 6 of us and the 2 bedroom was very spacious for all of us. The place is great however the furnishings need updating. I also wanted to warn anybody about the airport noise - starts at about 6;15 a.m. Very firendly and helpfull staff.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2006

We spent the first week in January at the Villa Mirage. We were looking for a restful place following the rush of Christmas and New Years. Been to Scottsdale several times but never to this place. Most Tripadvisor reviews were highly favorable and, per our experience, did not miss their target. The facility is in north Scottsdale about a mile inside the northeast corner of the 101 loop. We found it to be secluded and very quiet. We requested a one bedroom unit but were given a two BR upon arrival. It was nicely decorated, spacious, and very comfortable. If others had accompanied us there would have been plenty of room as well as privacy. The kitchen was complete - almost like home. Basha's Grocery is just north inside the loop and there are many nice restaurants within a mile either south or north. The concierge and desk staff were very helpful in providing recommendations and directions. Outside our condo was a large hot tub and sunning area, several grills, and tables and chairs. We put all to good use. The larger heated pool is lovely and the kiddie pool would accommodate families well. A waterfall adds a lovely touch. There were tennis courts though we did not use them. We did use the exercise room. Equipment was good quality though there were only about 6-7 pieces. We thought the little on-site store was nice and provided some supplies as well as affordable T-shirts to take home to the grandkids. The grounds were well kept. We would recommend this to all persons, but especially to somebody preferring a quiet little escape with Scottsdale and Phoenix just down the road. We enjoyed part of a day and lunch (Orange Table Rest.) in Old Town Scottsdale and stopped by the nearby TPC Golf Club where the PGA plays in Feb. Worth walking through the clubhouse and taking in the view even if all you do is buy a hat for somebody back home.
Day trip suggestions:
1) Apache Trail - take the 101 south to Route 60 then west to Apache Junction. Best to allow the better part of a day. Some parts of road are gravel but not too rough. Take the western road to Roosevelt Lake then on to Globe and back on R-60 to Apache Junction. On the western side are two beautiful lakes before you even reach Roosevelt Dam. Plan to stop in Tortilla Flats for lunch - a must!! If you have kids - stop near Superstition Mtn at Goldfield to let the kids ride the train.
2) Sedona - less than two hours north - beautiful views and pleasant shops and restaurants. Take a casual hike along the West Fork Trail north of town - follows a creek bed at the base of the mountains - beautiful and peaceful.
3) Jerome - less than two hours north and and west od Sedona. Old mining town up about 7000 feet. Have lunch at the Red Rooster. Then return over the mountains via Prescott and Wickenburg to Scottsdale.

Enjoy - we sure did.
