“Nice place but room for improvements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2011

Resort is in good location within easy driving distance of all conveniences. Not in good walking distance to much of anything. If you are able to reserve one of the upstairs units facing N you may get a great mountain view! Hang out on the balcony early in the morning and you may get to see some unique wildlife. Clean resort, very friendly staff. Extremely pushy vacation sales staff! Pool looks is much smaller than in most all photos. Our ‘remodeled’ studio unit offered a super size bath (actually unusual large for the size studio), yet offered only a very cramped kitchen area. Fridge, although newer, did not work proper. Unit entry door was not secure. Lobby offered 2 internet stations with printer – all in good working condition and at good speed. The resort offers a nice choice in a nice location for a fair price.

We stayed at the Villa Mirage for a week through an Interval International Getaway. We'd stayed there once before for 2 nights in a studio, but this time we were in a one bedroom for a week. We had no problems checking in, although we had to wait for a bit for the cleaning. The front desk was awesome! They were all very professional, kind, and efficient. We received a welcome bag with water, lotions, sun guard, and other small items. Very nice. We were approached at check in about doing a time share visit. We'd taken one several years before and found the agent rude and abusive, so we stated that and the lady was perfectly agreeable and let us go. No further contact re: time share selling.

We were in building 6, room 326 M -top floor overlooking the adult hot tub and courtyard. The room was spacious. clean, and well maintained. There was a large bathroom with jacuzzi and shower and double sinks. Lots of storage area. Room was very nice and we didn't need anything bigger. The kitchen was well stocked. Very pretty view, but we were right above the pumps for the hot tub which made constant noise, but it wasn't annoying and was more like "white noise". The courtyard area is lovely with plants, flowers, rock garden, small waterfall, deck, and hot tub. Next to it was a covered picnic area and 2 electric grills which we used most every night. I think any of the rooms overlooking the courtyard in buildings 5,6,7 and 8 would be nice. It was quiet at night and not by the large pool. The large pool is very nice with lots of chairs and some shade that rude people would put their towels on early in morning then not show up until mid afternoon. There wasn't any problem finding a nice place to sit. Behind the large pool is a smaller kiddy pool with more shade. For a couple afternoons, the lobby had complimentary chips, salsa, popcorn, lemonade, and cookies for a "welcome time". One afternoon, they had cheese and crackers, too. One morning they had delicious pastries and donuts to meet the manager. All well done and very nice.

There were 2 small tennis courts, with a different surface, that were nice to use unless you are really picky. Easy to get on and convenient. I don't know if they have racquets but they do have basketballs for the hoops located on the tennis courts.

The only complaint involves the Internet. There was a surcharge for Internet in the room but they did provide 2 computers in the lobby for use. Unfortunately, some guests would park themselves on the computer for more than their allotted time even though people were waiting to use the computers.

We brought our bikes and had a fun time riding all over It's pretty flat and there are either sidewalks or good biking paths. There's a huge park right outside the residential area on Hayden with baseball, soccer, playgrounds, etc. Very nice area.

We would return and found our stay very nice.

Room Tip: Buildings 5,6,7,8 more secluded and quiet. Around pool, tennis courts, and parking probably louder...

First, make sure to ask for a renovated room. I'm not sure what the non-renovated rooms looked like, but the renovated one was quite comfortable. Also, the location was very safe & convenient. Staff at the front desk, pool-side, and even sales people were very personable and friendly. I'd go back again, if I hadn't vowed not to back to the same place twice. The only downside was no elevator.

I just returned from a one-week stay at this property. Having read the reviews, I was prepared to be approached by aggressive time share personnel at check-in. I lucked out because the lobby was crowded and all the sales personnel were occupied. Unfortunately, my relief at avoiding this part of the check-in process was short lived because someone called each morning about attending a "tour", which I attended; and aggressive does not begin to describe the experience - it was brutal. After repeatedly declining their offer, I had to just leave or I would have been there all day.

Despite this, my stay at this property was positive. It is in a good location, the room was very nice and clean upon arrival. However, if I wanted to have housekeeping refresh my room, there was a charge of $35 per day. There are many restaurants in the area although not on the property - they have a small snack area that closes about 4:00 so you will have to either cook in your room or go out to dinner.

I had a studio unit, which could have been part of a two-bedroom unit if necessary. There was a door between the units so sounds from the connecting unit was significant. I could hear entire conversations. Balconies on the first floor are not completely enclosed - you can reach the parking lot from your balcony so I didn't feel safe leaving the sliding doors open too late in the evening. There was a swimming pool and tennis courts on the property. Although the area around the swimming pool was kind of small.

Room Tip: No elevators so get 1st floor if mobility problems

We were able to get a 1 bedroom renovated room. The room was excellent! The check-in was fine. We were sent to concierge. We had a person who was very helpful. She helped plan out our week. When she found out we were going to Grand Canyon and Sedona, she indicated we could stay at their place in Sedona in a studio for $19 if we did the 90 minute sales pitch the next morning. We took that. The sales pitch wasn't bad. We told the salesperson a few times we were in no way interested. We were out within 90 minutes and not bothered again. The accomodations were very good. The room was big, clean and overlooked the pool and mountains to the east. I rate this place a 4. The reason I can't rate it a 5 is due to the fact there is no restaurant, no bell people, no lounges, no lounge at the pool, things you expect at a 5 star place. But if you don't need that stuff, it was a great place, and their place in Sedona was also great! By the way, internet was free only in lobby. At the rooms you had to pay for it.

Now, when in Scottsdale I would recommend the following places to eat. Cantina Laredo for Mexican on Scottsdale Road. Great place!!! Arevederci Italian resturant also on Scottsdae Rd, Magnificent!! Take a small hike up Pinnacle Peak for a great view. 15 minutes from the room. On the way back, eat at Pinnacle Peak restaurant. It looks like a western little dive but it is the coolest place!!! Bring an old tie or business card. Margueritas are great but they also have great steaks and ribs. Finally, go 10 miles north on Scottsdale Rd to the town of Carefree. Great town at elevation of 3500 feet. Eat at Carefree Station. Sit either on the roof for a great view or the garden. Great atmosphere and the food is great!!!

In Sedona, take the pink jeep tour off road tour!!! At Grand Canyon, come in from the east and stop along the way until you get to the south rim. Then head south to Sedona on Rte 89 through Oak Creek Canyon. Very cool winding road. If you go to Tuscon, go to the Seguro National Forest!

Hope this helps.

Mu husband, sister-in-law and brother-in-law stayed here for 6 nights in November.

PROS: Room was HUGE! We requested a renovated room and were so glad we did! Everything was brand new, clean, and comfortable.
Gym and pool were small but nice.

CONS: We had one day of sun, and all of the pool chairs were gone in a heartbeat. Would probably be difficult to find a spot in the spring/summer.
We were immediately pressured into a time share presentation when we got there. We did get $100 out of it, but both my husband and I felt the $100 wasn't even worth it.
We went to the concierge/travel center for help with coming up with some excursions. The gal just through some brochures at us, didn't really help or offer to book anything for us. We ended up booking the Pink Jeep tour in Sedona ourselves and that was a lot of fun.
No free Internet - I think that's always unfortunate at any hotel these days.

We all said we would definitely go back again because the room was so nice. I would recommend this hotel but make sure you get a renovated room (we walked past an older room and it didn't even compare) and just say no to the time share presentation. It's not worth the $100.

After seeing the mixed reviews, we were a bit wary of this location, but from start to finish we had excellent service for a timeshare. Seems this is also the place for extended guests.

Check in was speedy and painless (suprisingly comparible to Hilton Honors). A break, after what we read. We experienced NO PRESSURE regarding time share/or tours of location at any time during our stay. Most of our daily phone calls were about the daily activites.

Lots of activities were available in and out of the hotel, and it has an amazing activities staff. They seem to do it all and are the best I have seen in awhile. This hotel also has a wonderful, adorable, large, arts and crafts room for children with so many projects from decorating flip flops, build a bear, to sand art. The staff was amazingly professional, friendly and helpful from the front desk to the activity staff to the service in the cafe.

Yes, the bathroom in unit and unit was a bit outdated, however, it was clearly well maintained and well cleaned. Cleaning service occurs once a week (as seems to be the norm for many timeshares lately, even those rated the highest) due to normal energy saving measures, towels were minimal but left for both bath and pool and toilet paper and tissues were thin, but plenty were available and you could request them if you ran out. A nice plus for this one bedroom unit was that it had a washer and dryer. Even though we try to ignore it, seems like we do laundry just as much on vacation. We normally get the two bedroom unit for the stackables, but it was not available here, but to our surprise the one bedroom unit came with them. The water was shut off one day and was supposed to be from 1100 am to 300pm. Ours was not off for the entire time, but I guess that could have been frustrating if you were hanging out in your room, in the middle of laundry or in need of an after pool shower, but we were notified a couple of days before, so we planned around it. In speaking with other guests, it didn't seem like this happens all the time. Our TV reception never went in and out and we had two tvs in our unit. A full service restaurant and a large convenience store would be a plus, although some really good restaurants are nearby (neighboring hotels, etc). Grocery store was a little further, but we went once and got it out of the way. This resort was on a small, but beautiful, peaceful property and has such excellent customer service. It was just a really great stay overall.
