“Return stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2008

This is our second stay at the Sheraton Dessert Oasis and we are really happy with this resort.
Yes the concierge desk try and get you roped in for the seminar but we didn't find them too intrusive.
The grounds are very well maintained as is the pool area. I do however feel the furnishings are starting to look a little tired and could benefit from some upgrading.
Staff overall are very friendly and helpful.
The resort is conveniently located, just off the 101 loop and in a nice quiet residential neighbourhood.
We shall definitely book another stay with this resort when travelling in Arizona.

The concierge/sales people were very pushy. We did not commit to a timeshare seminar (after saying no to the concierge several times) the 1st day. They called 3-5 times a day to try and book a time for us to sit through the 90 minute seminar. The calls began at 8am and continued on till 9pm. Very annoying.

As for the property...the pool is nice and clean. The hot tub is amazing! The room is awesome but there is no maid service. I asked for fresh bedding 4 days into the week and they dropped off clean sheets...it would have been nice for them to at least make the bed while we were out.

Go and expect a condo. No maid service, no food service and no general service.

We just got back from a family vacation at the Sheraton Desert Oasis. It was beautiful. Great for families. They had many activities throughout the day for kids and the pool allowed for rafts and pool toys, which most everyone took advantage of. I would have to say the most disappointing thing about the resort is the lack of activities for adults. There really isn't anything within a mile of the hotel for night owls. Although, if you forget stuff there are plenty of targets and other stores you can purchase stuff from without buying it at the hotel.

Pros: Great if you are wanting a relaxing vacation and are going to chill and lay by the pool the whole time. Food was pretty decent at the pool bar only the hours weren't that great. Clean rooms, quick response when we needed towels. Shopping malls are everywhere!!!

Cons: Not for adults who like to have constant things to do at their hotels. The fitness center had amazing machines but only 2 of each, so unless you got their early you had to wait for a machine. Hotel giftshop is over priced (which they all are).

The one-bedroom unit that we had was great. It had a small kitchen, a comfortable living room/seating area, and a completely seperate bedroom. Our unit also had a little balcony with table and chairs (unfortunately it overlooked the parking lot!). The grounds were pleasant. They have two pools---one large pool where most of the activity took place with a small snackbar nearby. The other so-called "quiet" pool (meaning: no kids and no playing) was way too small and in the shade. I would have liked a little larger and sunnier "quiet" pool.

The annoying thing about the hotel that it is really a time-share operation. Thus, after check-in you're told that someone will tell you some more "information" about the place. However, he is just a salesmen trying to get you to go to a meeting, take a tour of the place, and sit in on a sales meeting! Just say no!

Lot of the guests were the time-share owners and they were not your regular vacation crowd.

Also, in the morning there is a get-together early where they bribe you with free donuts (they weren't very good but people still eat them!) where all the local tourist services come and try to sell their tours. It is hard to believe that the room was filled to hear these hard-sell speeches just so they can have a free donut!

  • Liked — The one-befrrom unit was great!
  • Disliked — The time-share salemen

My husband and I returned from a long awaited trip for the two of us as our kids were on a mission trip. We really enjoyed ourselves. The unit we stayed in was a studio meaning there was one bedroom and the couch in the tv area pulled out for a bed. The room was very clean and everything we needed was provided. The staff was very nice and check in and out was a breeze. They provided maps and suggested places to eat. Because there is so much to see and do we only stayed at the resort 1 day and used the pool which was really nice. I have no negative comments about our stay. I would stay there again.

It's difficult to describe how cramped this place is as I did not take pictures. The bedroom barely fits a queen bed with two small bureau's on each side. Put my rollaboard on one side and it feels cramped and crowded. The furniture is jammed into the "living rooom" so that all the furniture is almost on top of each other. The one thing that has a lot of room is the bathroom, which has a whirlpool and double shower. However there is no counter space on the sink.

This is a really weird setup for those who are used to staying at Sheraton's. Also the amenities are not the same as other Sheraton's. The restaurant doesn't open until 8am, which is too late for most business travelers. Also there is no concierge lounge so platinum SPG memebers have no opportunity to grab and go.

We spent a week at this resort, with a 2 BR unit, and enjoyed it immensely. We even had a weather “adventure”, with temps from115 to 70 (with rain). We have friends in the area, so we didn’t take advantage of the resort activities, other than a wine tasting party, which was fun, and informative.

The units were very well maintained, and the staff we encountered were all friendly and responsive. We requested maintenance once, and it was answered very quickly. the units are dark, but we were on the 1st floor, and there aren’t many windows, so we had the lights on most of the time, but it wasn’t a problem. The furniture was comfortable, with a TV, DVD/CD player, and a gas fireplace. There is a nice little patio w/table, 4 chairs, and a padded bench. We appreciated having the free I-net service, but it would sure be nice if it could be used somewhere that isn’t so uncomfortable, like leaning over the coffee table. Maybe they’re trying to discourage over-useage?

The bedroom is large, with a big Jacuzzi, TV, and a gas fireplace, also. (Don’t put even a few drops of dishwashing soap in the Jacuzzi! LOL)

There is a closet, but only 2 drawers for storage, other than the end tables.

The bathroom has double sinks, and a separate area for the toilet and large shower.

The kitchen is fairly well equipped, but could include a few more bowls, and some tablespoons. There were a lot of teaspoons, and soup spoons, but only one serving spoon.

We probably could have requested more, though. I was surprised to find the salt & pepper shakers stuffed with little packets of salt and pepper. (very hard to shake!)

There is a closet in the kitchen with a stacked washer/dryer, which we appreciated, and the stove has an oven, and there is a microwave and a dishwasher so it's very easy to cook if you like.

The lock off unit was a lovely surprise, with a separate bedroom, a large bath, with a very large shower/Jacuzzi, and its own private patio, and a dishwasher in the kitchenette, as well as an apt. size fridge with separate freezer. Our kids, who came to spend 2 nights, really enjoyed the luxury and privacy.

The grounds are beautifully kept, and there are quite a few barbecue grills in the gardens, and they are cleaned each day. There is a small quiet pool..very shady, but the main pool is large, and beautiful, with an impressive waterfall, with a hot tub behind it, adding to a more private feeling. We had no problems with finding available lounges, but it was a bit off-season.

Scottsdale is pretty much in the middle of everything, with about anything you might need. We ate breakfast at “The Good Egg”, a restaurant about 1 ½ miles north, in the shopping center where Fry’s market Is located. It was very good. We also had a lovely lunch in Cave Creek, at “The Horny Toad”. Who could resist that name? We were very pleased with our stay, and would go back.
