Just returned from a conference at Talking Stick and it was much better than I had expected. The idea of hosting a work conference at the casino/resort (and I think listing the casino before hotel is the correct order). The rooms are very spacious as are the bathrooms, and both have a modern decor. The dark walls in the rooms are offset by the large windows which let in a tremendous amount of sunlight into the room. The bathrooms have plenty of space and a fair amount of light.
My room was conveniently located on the second floor, which is the main floor of the casino. The location made for short trips to and from the casino and conference rooms, but at 2:00am when casino and night club visitors are returning to their rooms it sounds as if they are standing in your room as the doors did not block out a lot of noise.
The rooms has a long work space counter, as well as a table with wheels that operates as a desk return. It would be nice to have an electrical jack next to or under the nightstand as the outlets are all on the work space and not bedside. But the if you have to work in the room, it is very comfortable to do so.
The casino staff was very professional, and really a lot of fun. The casino does not extend credit lines, so if you plan to gamble, bring cash. If you are accustomed to the Las Vegas-style casinos with a lot of glitz and glam, you will not find that at Talking Stick, but you will enjoy the friendly service. The "high roller" room has several Black Jack tables with minimum bets set at $25! I did not play slots or craps and did not hear from anyone in my group that did, so sorry, no info.
At the bar, I ordered a glass of the more expensive champagne (dry and creamy), but was served the cheap stuff (sweet and fruity). After one sip, I informed my server that I had received the wrong champagne. She was very sweet, but insisted she had seen the bartender open the bottle and poor the glass. When I went to speak with the bartender and explained the mix up. He merely showed me the open bottle of the champagne I had ordered. So what? I had him pour another glass and compare the color and nose of each glass and he finally, and most begrudgingly offered me the right glass. I HATE to have this incident lower the hotel's overall rating, but being a champagne lover and been a consumer of the champagne I had ordered for decades, his attitude was off putting. I could not believe that he thought showing me an open bottle would suffice as "evidence" he served me the right champagne. Ugh.
Talking Stick provides a nice place for a business event. The meeting rooms are new and well maintained. The conference space on the 2nd/main floor felt nicer than those on the first floor, but that may be solely due to the higher ceilings on the main floor.
I would not book a leisure trip as there are luxury options available in Scottsdale, but for work? I probably would book an event if Scottsdale was the location of conference.
For conference attendees, I like the rooms on the first floor, close to the elevators, but you may h...
