“Wonderful Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights in March and really enjoyed our time here. We were upgraded to a suite which was nice - the only drawback was that it was just off the reception area and the view was of the carpark.
We spent a lot of our time by the pool and had lunch there 2 days which was very nice. My only concern here is that there is only one person allocated here to look after all of the guests and he did seem to be a bit overworked - but he tried hard (I think his name is Ben). Also, I found it a bit strange that at a five star resort we were expected to make up our own sunbeds - not a huge chore obviously but not quite what i was expecting.
We loved the beautiful lobby area and really enjoyed the wine tastings in the afternoon. We also had coffe here in the mornings but there was no sign of the pastries which we were informed would also be there?
We found the ambassadors to be very pleasant and helpful and we really appreciated the free transport into town which we took advantage of several times.
We ate at the Italian restaurant one night and had a very nice meal followed by drinks by the open fireplace at the Thirsty Camel.
All in all a very nice stay which I think deserves a four star rating.

Thank you for your wonderful review! I am so pleased you enjoyed your suite; however, we would have been happy to move you had we known the view was not completely to your liking. We are disappointed to hear we were unable to meet your expectations at the pool, and we will share your concern with our ambassadors. It is nice to hear you were able to partake in some of wonderful amenities that are only offered at the Canyon Suites. I would like to mention we do have a grab and go breakfast option which includes a yogurt parfait, a pastry and juice, available for purchase during breakfast hours in our lobby. We are currently working on new offerings for our coffee bar in the morning. We would be honored to have a chance to make your next trip even more wonderful!

The Canyon Suites at the Phoenician is amazing. We have stayed a few times at the main hotel before and also loved that, but the service at the Canyon Suites is as good as it gets. The staff knows everyone’s name and cannot do enough for you. A special shout out to Patrick one of the Valet personal. Every afternoon is complimentary wine and cheese tasting in the lobby.
The pool is much smaller than the main hotel– however you can always walk over or get a complimentary golf cart ride to main pool. Only piece of constructive criticism is the Canyon Suites pool should be designated a “quiet” pool. Not necessarily an adult only pool but quiet- since there are so many other pools.
The rooms are great. The hotel location is 100%- for amazing restaurants within 2 miles and hiking up Camelback. We will be back again.
Even had a few “star” sightings.

The concept is an appealing one.. a luxury hotel within a hotel.. however they cannot pull it off.. There is nothing special about it at all..No comparison to Aman, Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons Resorts..
The suites are huge.. though devoid of any sense of the southwest...no special amenities..
The pool is lovely, however, we made the mistake of staying during Spring Break and Training and the main hotel was packed to the gills.. with a line up of wall to wall chairs.. as a result, though the Canyon Suites pool is supposed to be restricted to Suite Guests and property owners a number of hotel guests took advantage of the fact that no one was keeping track of where guests were staying... Though you were paying for exclusivity you were not receiving it.. Breakfast was a disaster.. a buffet was available ( a mediocre one.. that doesn't compare to the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons) if you arrived anytime after 8 you were told , not very nicely, that there was at least a 25 minute wait. There were so many people waiting there was nowhere to sit. Reservations were recommended but didn't help as the next day we were told the wait was 20 minutes and not to expect to be seated outside. Coffee is set out early in the lobby of The Suites however, the pots are not heated so by eight the coffee is lukewarm. Small muffins would be a nice touch, however, tasteless biscotti are put out instead...The Spa is tiny and dated and in dire need of renovation.. the jacuzzi is laughable.. a hole in the ground.. the staff there are very pleasant and helpful however.. The Golf course has 9 additional holes that are restricted to property owners.. the 18 holes are not restricted to hotel guests and the play is very slow..both days we were paired with golfers from the community. The Concierge Staff at the Canyons are absolutely lovely and helpful.. however they are handcuffed by what appears to be poor management, poor value for your money and the main hotel being absolutely over run with guests that they cannot comfortably accommodate.. Other than the restaurant, where the manager was very helpful once he learned of our plight, at The Suites we only saw a manager once during our entire stay ..

We appreciate the feedback you have provided from your stay, and regret that your experience did not meet our AAA Five Diamond/Forbes Five-Star criterion. Designed to offer a more residential feel marked by casual elegance, The Canyon Suites subtly implements Southwest touches throughout all accommodations – both in the artwork and the warm, rich tones (green, blue, gold, etc.) and textures representative of the surrounding Sonoran dessert. A special welcome amenity is provided upon arrival. Additional exclusive features include a daily complimentary wine tasting in the main lobby; a chauffeured-driven Mercedes SUV to take guests anywhere on the property, or to/from nearby Old Town Scottsdale; and our “therapeutic turndown” – a bath drawn with special salts, upon request. Unfortunately, with spring break/spring training being our peak time of year, all of our venues tend to be quite busy. It sounds as though there was some miscommunication regarding our golf course, as all 27 holes (three, 9-hole courses) are open to all guests and the general public. Please know that your concerns are being addressed by executive management, and your suggestions – including muffins in the lobby – are being taken into consideration. We hope you will visit us again so we can demonstrate our characteristic, personalized, luxury approach to travel.

Just finished a week at the Canyon Suites and our stay was just about perfect. Excellent property with well trained staff. The rooms were large, clean and well appointed. We liked the exclusive nature of the "resort within a resort" and would definitely stay there again.

We went to Scottsdale for a mid winter break and this was the right spot to do it! From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty - my husband's bag had been lost and the staff were very helpful in getting us set up to enjoy our time until it arrived later that evening. There is nothing the staff wouldn't do for us in the whole time of our one weeks stay. The room was fabulous - large and comfortable. Housekeeping was outstanding and all facilities were great. We enjoyed the restaurant, pool, spa and golf course. Location was super and concierge was exceptional. I would highly recommend this resort and we will return again!

Highly recommend staying here if you are looking to get away for a nice, relaxing trip! Our room was amazing- the size of a luxury apartment! The bed was comfortable- no outdoor noise problems, and the bathroom was very spacious. The property was great- the hotel was very private with AMAZING cabanas with a TV, bathroom and privacy. The pool food service was good. The main resort is totally different and great for families. The spa is great and offers unique services. Breakfast was good everyday at the main restaurant.
Hope to be back one day!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

My husband and I booked a stay here last winter and were pretty disappointed. The grounds and lobby are very pretty but the hotel has a corporate feeling.
We arrived at night and the restaurant had limited bar food. Though the hotel seemed nearly empty when we were there our room was at the end of a very, very long dismally lit hallway - very dreary.
We stayed in the building with a view of the "peaceful infinity pool" because I love to swim. But when I went to the pool the next day there was a swarm of bees on the ladder into the pool. I tried to swim some laps but that swarm of bees was disconcerting. Twice I mentioned it to staff walking by but they had no response. A woman sunbathing next to the pool told me she stayed there often and it was ongoing problem. (We keep bees at our property in California and dealing with a swarm of bees is not that difficult!)
Scottsdale is beautiful and we prefer other hotels to this one.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We regret to hear that your experience wasn’t up to par with our Five Diamond, Five Star standards. Please know that we are aware of the bees and we are making a serious effort to minimize, if not eliminate, their presence at the pool. Your comments have been shared with our operations team to ensure that we are doing everything possible to make the pool experience better. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the lobby and grounds of our beautiful 250 acre property. We sincerely hope that you will visit us again next time you are in Scottsdale so we can demonstrate to you what makes The Canyon Suites a TripAdvisor 2013 Traveler’s Choice.
