“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2011

We stayed for 1 night. The hotel is small, I think it only has about 30+ rooms but it was just what we were looking for in terms of quality, price and location. The hotel itself is very well maintained and our room was very clean, modern and of a very high quality finish.

The loction is great, there are numerous restaurants, bars, cafes that you can walk to as well as a great shopping mall. Its in a very safe area and we felt totally relaxed walking out in the evening.

The pool area was also very clean and a nice place to spend an hour or so just relaxing

The staff were very helpful and accomodating.

Our stay at Best Western SunDial was for a conference, and quite frankly because there were no rooms available at our other "brand" hotel that we usually stay at for business and leisure.

The rooms were clean and spacious and luxurious. The food for the complimentary breakfast was fresh and delicious ( with great coffee).

The pool was sparkling clean and inviting.

The MOST important part of the stay ( and the part that has converted us to Best Western customers) was the staff.

The GM Jude Nau was wonderful and just made the stay as pleasant and comfortable as can be, with more attentive service than some much pricier hotels we usually stay at.

The staff was always helpful, courteous and just a pleasure to interact with.

We will certainly stay at other Best Westerns while travelling on business or leisure, and hope to return for the SunDIal in Scottsdale for an extended trip soon.

I settled for the Best Western after my work wouldn't pay for the Hotel W across the street. The deal seemded too good to be true: $100 a night (half the price of the W and $20 less than my work would pay for a hotel). But the location is undeniably great and the reviews were positive -- I'd also heard that urban Best Westerns had updated their decor. Count me as a convert!

-- Design. The hotel has a nice open design. I didn't need to go through the lobby to get to my first floor room.

-- Room. nicely appointed with a good bed, TV, and shower. I had a jacuzzi in my room -- not in the bathrooom -- in the middle of the bedroom. Weird, but it certainly didn't hurt. I also had porch but it faced a wall, which was not appealing.

-- Pool. Nice and the wirlpool is nice during the cooler spring months.

-- Breakfast . A tick above average with yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, bagels -- choices often missing from the egg/bacon buffets.

-- Gym. Big plus! Since I hate shoebox gyms at most hotels, I was happy that you can go to a real gym in the neighborhood for just $3 a visit. That gym had everything, including spinning classes that you can sign attend.

-- Location. Probably the best part. Perfectly placed between new and old Scottsdale. You are steps from Fashion Square, which as numerous dining and drinking options. I frequented Yard House. You are also just a couple blocks from the 101, which gets you north/south very quickly.

I walked through the Hotel W across the street. It is a little more stylish than the West Western, but not by as much as you'd think. The bar and restaurants were empty -- probably because Fashion Square is one block away with tons more options. So, what exactly do you get for $200 a night? Poser status and not much more.

We were doing an event across the Street at the W. Normally I always stay at the Hotel our event is at, especially when its a starwood property, but the W was so ridiculously over priced that I refused to pay it. So I went across the street. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. This Hotel is very nice, very clean and very modern. The only drawback to it, was the Bathroom sink is open to the rest of the room, so if you are sharing the room expect to wake up anyone sleeping in there. But the room was modern, very reasonably priced and located in the heart of old scottsdale, with all the bars and clubs seconds away, Scottsdale Fashion Center a few minutes walk, and tons of Restaurants nearby. I would recommend this hotel and honestly, would stay here before the W, cause the W in phx is way overhyped. Just my opinion though.

At first, I liked the design, which is bare-bones chic. Square concrete blocks on one side of the room match the square patterns on the wall paper. Modern conveniences are efficiently packed in. However, the designer totally blew it on the showers. No shower curtain, just a partial glass wall. Water sprayed all over the rest of the toilet area. (Also, the soap holder does not hold the soap or shampoo, so one must bend to pick it up after every use.)

The shower is worse for disabled persons, because the shower in the disabled room does not even have the lip to catch some of the water. This is a defectively dangerous design for those who are, already, mobility impaired, like my in-laws.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Location allows for walking to many restaurants and shopping. However, without a shower curtain, the rooms are not safe for people to shower. Yes, staff knows of the problem, but management, apparently, lacks the will fix it. Management is probably spending more in extra laundry (because guests use 4 towels per shower to mop the floor), than it would cost for a basic curtain rod and curtain. I guess after someone gets hurts and sues, they will decide to do something.

I recently stayed at the Best Western Sundial in Scottsdale AZ. The pictures online do not do the small hotel justice. This a fantastic hotel with lots to offer. The rooms are very modern. They have flat screen tvs, mini fridge, coffee pot and free internet. They provide a continental breakfast but have sausage, eggs and toast to go with oat meal and cereal. It is located with in walking distance of a great mall with plenty of dining. The parking is free which a plus. It was very reasonably priced at $69.00. I would definitely stay there again.
