Just got back from the Four Seasons Scottsdale. We are members of the Four Seasons Residence Club and this is our third time visiting the property. Since we have two young children, we like the convenience of staying in a two-bedroom suite at the Residence Club, while having full-access to the main resort. There are lots of very detailed report on the resort so I will just add some perspective from a family frequently traveling with young children (my kids and 5 and 6).
First of all, the FS is as family-friendly as it can be. The service was incredible and we always feel genuinely welcomed there. They are very accommodating to children and provided lots of extras in the room, e.g. kid-sized bath robe and kids toiletries (and the L'Occitane for mom). They could also baby-proof the rooms and provide diaper-pails, little step stools, bed rails, etc.
There are three pools each at the main resort and the Residence Club: a 1.5 ft children's pool with child-size lounge chair; a family pool with complementary pool toys and noodles; and an adult-only quiet pool. There are always quite some kids at the family pool and our kids regularly found someone their age to play with. Most children are fairly well-behaved. They also have a supervised, complementary kids club for children ages 5 and above.
For as expensive as the resort can be (e.g. $14 margaritas and $25 room service pizza), the kids menu is surprisingly cheap. For $6 (yes, six dollars!!), the kids get a drink, a main course, and a side of fries or fruit salad at the restaurants. Believe me, the $6 kids meals really took away the pain of $100+ lunch bills. Talking about lunch, we arrived on Friday afternoon and by the time we checked in and changed into our bathing suits it was quite late. We got to the pool at the Residence Club and the children were starving. I asked the pool staff whether we could find some lunch for the children. He said the poolside restaurant, Ocotillo Grill, was closing in 10 minutes but they will definitely take our order. I went over to the restaurant, spoke to the waiter, and he just smiled and said don't worry, they will keep it open for us. So we sat down, placed the order for the kids, and decided since they don't care, we will just relax and enjoy ourselves. By the time we were done, they had held the restaurant open for an extra hour just for us!!
on Sunday we invited two local friends to join us for lunch at the Crescent Moon (a casual but elegant restaurant). After we sat down the waiter brought my kids with crayons and a ton of coloring pages. My 6-year old son said he's not interested in drawing and asked them whether they had blocks or Legos. The waiter came back with a huge bucket of wooden blocks and didn't seem to be concerned about the potential noise wooden blocks could generate. So we just relaxed, had nice two-course lunch with wine, and great conversation with our friends while our kids played quietly and occassionally joined in the conversation. Before we realized that we were at the restaurant for almost 2 hours!!
Our kids are very well-traveled and fairly well-behaved. However, we noticed that they are even better-behaved at the FS. We wonder whether they have responded positively to the respect and warmth from the staff. We are going back in two month to spend Thanksgiving at the resort. Can't wait for our return trip!
