We've stayed at many resorts in the Scottsdale area including The Hyatt at Gainey Ranch, Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Westin Kierland Villas, Westin Kierland Resort and Spa, and the JW Marriott at Desert Ridge. The Four Seasons is by far the best of all the resorts we've been to in the area. It is a smaller resort in a beautiful area off the beaten path so it feels more exclusive. No large convention groups! We celebrated our anniversary here and when we checked in we received an anniverary card and a free upgrade to a room with a view. The room itself was wonderful. Beautiful bathroom, walk in closet., large sleeping area which included a sitting area with a flat screen TV and fire place. We also had a large deck with very comfortable seating and a beautiful view. The pools are small, but we spent most of our time by the pool in a cabana. Cabanas are free but are first come first serve. You can go out early in the morning before breakfast and ask them to hold one for you and they will hold it for up to 1 hour. We also received a complimentary bottle of champagne, truffles, and a handwritten anniversary note from the hotel manager. They also gave us a late check out when we asked for one. The service was just outstanding. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the food. We celebrated our anniversary dinner at Talavera. We had 2 margaritas, 2 goat cheese salads, 2 lobster dinners, and 1 souffle dessert. They also gave us a free slice of chocolate cake for our anniversary. The bill was about $200. I would be willing to pay this amount if the food and service were outstanding, but they were not. The experiece did not match how much we paid for dinner. The portions were just too small and the lobster was overcooked. The goat cheese "salad" was just a piping of goat cheese with literally just a few pieces of arugula, beets, and nuts. We also ordered room service for breakfast which came out to $70, the food was just ok. We will definitely stay at the Four Seasons again, but we will most likely go off the property for our meals. Excellent summer rates, we got a AAA rate of $175.50 plus tax. We were there the first week of September and the weather was wonderful...hot, but not too hot. If you want snacks to bring by the pool and don't want to order food at the pricey poolside restaurant, there is an AJ's Gourmet Store very close by.
