“Desert Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

Celebrating my husband's 40th birthday we retreated to the beautifully well- appointed Fire Sky Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona for 4 days and 3 nights. We arrived early and our room was ready for us! This was great because we were looking forward to relaxing after a 4 hour flight. The room was very modern in design and cozy. Our room included a private patio with two adirondack chairs perfect for sipping coffee or a nice glass of wine. The pool area was absolutely gorgeous and included all of the elements of nature. Fire torches surrounding the pool, tranquil water falls and babbling brooks, and soft desert breezes fulfilling the air element. At night, the pool takes on a new life with lights in the trees, lit fire torches and the sounds of waterfalls that could easily resemble a scene from the movie Avatar. We had dinner in Taggia restaurant which is right on site. The food was impeccable! Our waiter "Will" was both knowledgable about every dish on the menu and very pleasant! He even brought out a complimentary dessert to help make my husband's b-day dinner extra special! The meal itself was both delicious and economical. We had two appetizers, two entrees, and two glasses of wine for $100.00! In D.C our hometown that meal could have easily ran us a minimum of $200. Our second day included a relaxing respite at the beautiful Jurlique spa which was out of this world. You must try the one hour couple's aromatherapy massage. It is heaven on earth! This vacation really spoiled us. Everyday we luxuriated in warm 70 degree temperatures in December non the less! Overall, this was just what we needed for a quick romantic getaway to celebrate my sweetie's 40th! You can't go wrong with Kimpton hotels to pay attention to details and to give you a quality experience you will always treasure!

Room Tip: You must stay in a patio room with a pool view!

We loved everything about this hotel, but especially were drawn to the fire pits and sand around the pool. They offer s'more kits at the front desk to use at the fire pits. We ate at the restaurant for Thanksgiving and everything was delicious. We highly recommend this hotel for everyone. We hope to come back again next year.

We spent 3 restful days here for Christmas. I floated around the pool in the 70 degree sunshine and spent time reading on the cabana lounge. We ate at the Taggia Restaurant for the first time and were amazed at how wonderful the dinner was. Scallops to die for and a tasty steak for husband. The ahi appetizer was cooked just right, too.
Only one thing that I consistently have a problem with in my two visits was the "No Smoking" policy on the patio where the fire pit sits - just outside the bar. Two signs - one specific to cigars and one generic smoking sign - seemed to be a joke. For those of us who are disabled upon contact with these two smokes, our physical needs were ignored. We wanted to roast marshmallows but couldn't sit in that area. The other fire pit - where smokers should have gathered - was occupied - with smokers. If I was in a wheel chair, nobody would have treated me this way but smokers and bar managers just don't get it. To some it is a disability. Please try to enforce the no smoking policy (and laws).

You are correct and I am committed to ensuring my staff adheres to the AZ smoking laws and our in house policies. Please accept my apology for that and know that I take this serious and and sorry that it was not enforced it during your stay.

We just got back from staying 5 nights at Firesky. The staff was very friendly. They allowed us to move to another room with a slightly better balcony view. The complimentary coffee and evening wine is a nice touch. I really loved the landscaping in the pool area. It was tropical and reminded us of our Mexico beach vacations. It has palm trees, orange trees, and waterfalls. The torches at night are very charming. The location is excellent. There is a large variety of restaurants and shopping a short drive in either direction. Old Town is right down the street. One minor complaint is the bathroom is small, even though the closet is huge. I would love to stay here again.

Room Tip: Hotel restaurant is pricey. Many good options down the street.

Firesky was wonderful and the people were so kind. Amazing service. Fancy bathrooms, decent on-site restaurant. Nobody was there, i had the big pool to myself most of the time. The beach pool was cool, but the sand to get there was very hot. The shuttle people were great, resort very close to town. Lots of sightseeing and shopping! Great mall too. Rooms were fine, wasn't in them long but no complaints. One of the groups in our party had a leak and was immediately moved and upgraded! Unfortunatley our party wasn't all in the same building. Layout is nice. Free s'mores was great with the kids. The big pool had torch waterfalls which light up and look lovely. Lobby had beautiful decor and the front drop off even had a nice mist to cool you off. They had free water dispensers around the property if you needed it, nice coffee in the mornings. Drink and Food poolside service was alright. Alex at the front desk was wonderful! Amazing Trip. Would come back but i want to visit other parts of the world!

Room Tip: You don't spend much time in the room. I wouldn't pay extra to have an interior view.

We hemmed and hawed about where to stay in Scottsdale during a long-weekend visit, and settled on FireSky after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and wanting to enjoy the "beach" at their pool with my toddler.

Upon entering the property, lit torches decorated the front, and you enter a stunning lobby with soaring ceilings, beautiful woodwork and decor. It really sets the stage that your experience there is going to be top notch.

After that set up, when we got to our room, it was kind of disappointing. You get the clear feeling that the rooms are retrofitted former motel rooms. The ceilings are low, the rooms are dark, and we had a less than exciting view of the parking lot. We did end up changing our room and upgrading, for a small fee, to get a 2nd floor room that overlooked the interior part of the property, and that did help the experience.

We went over Labor Day Weekend, and when we headed to the pool the next morning, it was packed to the brim. There was not a chair available. When we eventually did get one, we waited a ridiculously long time for any waitstaff to make their way over to our side to take food or drink orders. Because of this, we decided to spend less time at the resort and more time out in Scottsdale and Phoenix. All well and good, but it was certainly a change of plans.

I've stayed at other Kimpton properties before and their decor was, for the most part on par, I suppose. But, it seemed like they were trying to make the best of the situation with the rooms - I did like the decor of the bathrooms and the beds were comfortable. I just really, really wish that the rooms were up to the same level as what you see in the lobby. If the rooms were, this place would be fantastic.

Also, I did try the spa when there. It, too, was OK. They ended up giving me a shorter treatment than I actually booked, which was also disappointing, because the therapist messed up. They ended up giving me a discount because of the mistake.

The location was convenient to the main shopping area of Scottsdale though not really walkable.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room on the interior -- otherwise you will be looking at parking lots & roads...

I am so sorry that your stay was just OK. We strive for 5 stars and it appears we let you down. The resort is 53 years old, but we do try our absolute best to keep it maintained and sparkling clean. I hope this doesn't prevent you from coming back.
Happy New Year,
Cheryl

We just returned from a long weekend in Scottsdale, AZ. We stayed at the Firesky Resort and overall I was very happy with our stay. The location of the hotel is desirable, we walked to Fashion Square for lunch and shopping. The room was neat and clean, the bathroom was smaller, hard for two people to be in there at once, but it was also clean and they supplied CO Bigelow products. The bed was too soft and springy but that is my opinion and doesn't take away from the room. The grounds are well kept, there is plenty of outside seating and they have a free wine tasting every night from 5-6pm. You can't beat that.
