We stayed here for three nights recently, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at FireSky. Don't go expecting a spacious, palatial resort -- it's smaller and more intimate. The staff was top notch, and we did not encounter any poor service from any of the staff members except for a minor oversight which was quickly corrected (Our goldfish was late! See below).
The location is good to fair, depending on your perspective. There really isn't anything immediately near the hotel except other businesses and homes, but there is a large mall about a mile to the south which is walkable in good weather (in the summer heat it's not that pleasant). Also, the hotel has a quick shuttle service which can take you to the center of Scottsdale where all the shopping and food is located.
The property itself is in good condition and well decorated. Our room was very nice, though I wouldn't consider it "large" but certainly adequate. We had two queen beds, and all of us thought that the beds were extremely comfortable with enough pillows for the three of us. There's a small fridge, a flat screen TV, and a little snack minibar which is cleverly placed in a glass-topped drawer so it doesn't reduce the amount of space available. Prices were ridiculous as per any minibar, however. The bathroom is very nicely decorated with a basin sink, granite, and other touches. The shower head was very nice, and we had no complaints. One minor complaint about the room -- the desk had a glass top, which is normally fine except when you are using a computer mouse which have significant problems with glass. Consider putting a mousepad in the room, please!
Our daughter loved the pools, and the "beach" at the smaller one was a nice touch. The hot tub was nice and hot, and the larger pool was cool enough to provide relief while the "beach" pool was more akin to bathwater, which I suppose is hard to avoid with the Arizona sun in the summer. There was considerable debris in the pools from the trees in the courtyard, but since it's hard to stop trees from dropping seeds or leaves, I don't consider it that big of a problem. We did not use the outside bar at all.
The courtyard itself is fantastic. The variety of trees and flowers was gorgeous, and while the droppings (feathers and otherwise) were a bit annoying, the birds were a welcome addition overall as they were constantly singing. We even spotted a rabbit running around. There are seating options all over the place, and at night, it was easy to find a spot to alight without feeling that you're on top of hordes of people.
The fitness area is one of the better ones that I've seen at a hotel in recent memory. They have cycles and treadmills as well as dumbbells, adjustable benches (but not to fully upright -- that was a frustration!), and a multi-function tower with two cable pulleys that can be used for a wide variety of exercises including squats and deadlifts, with some compromises. Very nice setup especially if you're a weightlifter away from your normal gym and want to train a bit.
The concierge was pleasant and capable and connected us with a rental car for a trip out to Taliesin West just to the north of Scottsdale. Beware the Coke/Diet Coke price in the concierge though -- wow!
All told, we were quite pleased with our stay at FireSky and recommend it for anyone visiting Scottsdale. We would like to return to Scottsdale, and FireSky will be at the top of the list for hotels.
