The road into this beautifully decorated B&B belies its true beauty. After following directions, not GPS over a washed out, washboard road with many twists and turns we have come upon a delightful Bed and Breakfast, so beautiful and yet so comfortable and affordable too! Upon early arrival the hosts, Angie and Mike showed us around this historic museum of artifacts of the southwest. The bird room, mining room and the room we stayed in, the cowboy room are all decorated with antiques with stories behind each piece. And yet, the room was completely comfortable, a nice kitchenette, our had a whirlpool tub and plenty of closet space.
The food was fit for a gourmet! Host Mike, boasting his status of a cook to his mom, made us a delicious breakfast with each meal catered to the person's special dietary needs. My started with a smoothie, a guirer cheese soufflé, the host own recipe side dish far more than potatoes and a delish strawberry crepe topped off with a great cup of coffee and orange juice. Snakes were also presented in the evening and include chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate chip banana muffins.
One of the best part of our stay at Down by the River was getting to know our hosts, Angie and Mike who now seem more like good friends than hosts. They joined us for breakfast with delightful conversation, helpful suggestions for things to do in the community and a warn welcoming atmosphere.
I would definitely recommend Down by the River to anyone who wants a short get-away to a full blown vacation!
We chose the Cowboy room for the whirlpool tub!
