True, the front cafe is a little run-down but has historical connections to movie stars who have eaten here when filming in the area. Locals, such as us, and those in the know, walk along the creek path to the back restaurant which is charming, rather Mexican in feel with brightly colored walls and furniture and a lovely patio for warmer weather.
The food is consistently good here, whether it is my husband's weekly after-hike meal of eggs and sausage. My favorites are the omelettes which are unusual and well-cooked, neither runny or dried out. They will make up any combination - last time I had spinach, tomatoes, cilantro, avocado and chorizo. Not your usual offering! and the house cottage fries are to die for.
The DB also serves lunches, although I have never tried their sandwiches or daily specials. Oddly enough the DINNER Bell is only open for breakfast and lunch....
