We stayed in Cabin #18 for 3 Nights during the Weekend right Before Christmas. This was a 1 Bedroom Cabin and we paid $135 a Night. We booked directly by phone.
We arrived while it was snowing and had to leave our car towards the top of the hill closer to the main road and walk down to our cabin (which was at the bottom) so that we did not get stuck in the snow or slide into a tree on the icy dirt road. Check in was a breeze and the staff was very nice. After checking in we went and got chains so we could drive down to our cabin. The whole time we were gone the staff was hard at work laying gravel on the roads so when we got back it was fairly easy driving down to our cabin. If it is going to snow when you plan on coming, I do reccommend getting chains. When they say it might snow in the White Mountains... most likely it will! At night the roads get Really icy so avoid driving at night if possible!
The inside of the Cabin had Real wood panel walls and a rock, wood burning fire place. We really liked that! The staff keeps your Porch/Deck fully stocked with fire wood which was a Huge plus! The furniture is pretty dated and older and so is the bathroom and kitchen. The floors have older carpet and vinyl but honestly we really liked that the place wasn't 'New'. Its not supposed to be dressed up with fancy furniture and granite countertops... its a cabin and all of that would have ruined the feel of the place! The toilet was wierd though... really small and moved a bit.... didn't like that too much! This place was Really clean and that is Very important to me when staying somewhere! You can tell that they really work hard to keep it up! The kitchen has pots/pans, utensils, glasses, a stove, a fridge, a toaster, a coffee maker, and a dish drainer and sponge and soap to do your dishes. Everything you need to eat in if you choose to! The front porch had a few plastic chairs and a charcoal BBQ, make sure to bring your own charcoal though. The bathroom had kleenex, tp and a few bars of soap... you will need to bring shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, a blowdryer and anything else you may need. The bedroom had two beds I think they were Queen beds but they could have been Full. They supplied an extra blanket and pillow in the closet and the Loveseat in the living room also folds out into a bed. The living room had one recliner chair, a loveseat and a 27 inch tv with cable. It was comfortable for two people but not enough furniture for more people then two to get truely comfortable if you plan on spending alot of time in the cabin.
We really liked how much privacy we had. There was a big stack of gravel for the roads and a big stack of firewood next to our cabin and during the day the staff was hard at work getting the road graveled and firewood stocked but they were very quiet about it... we never would have even known they were they if we hadn't seen them. The cabins are spaced nicely apart. The cabin we were in had nothing but woods next to us and nothing behind us. On the other side of us was a cabin but it was a good distance away and across the dirt road. There were 2 other cabins across from us but they were across the dirt road and pretty far away and behind some trees. These cabins are nicely surrounded by woods which is exactly what we were looking for and at night you wouldn't even know anyone else was around... all you can see is tall trees. The one downfall to our cabin was a large light post next to our cabin but at least it was a yellow light... it sure would be nice if the owners took it down though.
There is a Lake that isn't too far away and I know there is a trail that you can walk to get there but because it was so cold, icy and snowy we just drove there. It was a very pretty lake with lots of woods and some ducks. There is a movie theater not too far away and a restaurant called 'Darbie's' near the front entrance that had Really good breakfast! There is also the HonDah casino not too far away... maybe a 15 minute drive. We really liked the location Pinetop seemed the prettiest out of Showlow, Lakeside and Pinetop and it seemed the highest. The snow was thick and stuck the entire 3 days we were there. Make sure you brings Lots of warm clothes! It gets really cold!
Oh and also if you have a special preference for blankets and pillows bring your own. The blankets are very basic and itchy and the pillow are very basic as well.
Overall I would say that this place was pretty perfect! It was exactly what we were looking for and we def. plan to visit again one day!
