“great room, not great service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

The room and amenities feel like a Hyatt Regency but the service definitely does not. Do not stay here for any reason other than to be very close to the convention center. The pool is a joke and as if to emphasize this there is absolutely not service or attendant on duty. The maids make the bed but that is about it. They don't change the plastic bag in the ice bucket and leave the water from the melted ice just sitting there. Cups are not replaced and soap wrappers remained in the shower for 4 days! The door staff couldn't give directions. The Einstein Bagels in the lobby was great and you can walk right across the street to the convention center. The other plus is the parking garage right next door so you can save over $10/day on parking if you don't valet. Don't stay here if you are expecting the Hyatt attention to detail. The room was, however, really nice and the bed extremely comfortable.

Room Tip: High floor was great

I reserved a balcony room ages ago for a meeting. Apparently there are no balconies over the 7 th floor and the one I got had NO view and had a 4 foot tall and 2 foot wide wall as the balcony edge. I guess there were some with railings but "all of them were taken" and so sorry for me. They did move me way up the building to the 20th floor facing west. That was a nice view and the windows were the whole width of the room. Couldn't open the windows at all but it WAS 100 degrees out there so I likely wouldn't have done it anyway. They had good service. Room was very clean. What I really liked was they had a whole menu of stuff you could ask for free and stuff you could borrow like tea kettles and robes. That brought her up to 4 stars. The robe was very plush. The pool area was poor though. NO place to sit when a bit busy (I can see it arial view from my room and there are 21 loungers and no chairs at all) and very little shade. It was very clean though. Put some chairs out there people!!! There is room for them. The convention center is right out the front door. That was nice. There are a lot of things to do really close by and the crime risk seems very low. You are completely surrounded by BIG bank buildings. Public transportation is right there with light rail. Overall very good for a business meeting. Would stay elsewhere for vacation due to the pool situation.

I bought this hotel reservation on hotwire.com. Apparently they punish people who use hotwire and reward those that book directly from the site, even though I am a hyatt passport member. Internet costs $9.95 a day, although my friend who booked directly on the hotel website got free interent and free breakfast. No free breakfast for me. And they didn't clean my room on the first night I stayed! What the heck!

I arrived sometime after midnight and when I tried to check in, the lady tried to direct me to the self-serve kiosk, where the check-in process didn't even work. She ended up having to log in herself to get my keys and whatnot. I had been traveling all day and just wanted someone to do the checking in for me!! ended up wasting even more time. Her computer took forever to boot up, and she was very apologetic, which I appreciated. But yea...when someone is checking in after midnight and is ringing the bell for service, you should probably just check them in instead of making them try to do the self-check.

The location is very convenient to downtown and the convention center. The decor of the hotel was very nice, especially the lobby. The room was spacious and comfortable EXCEPT the thermostat didn't work too well. I had it set to 72 degrees and it was reading 75 degrees, even when I turned the fan on. I was hot at night, even when I turned the temperature down. Not sure what was up with that, but it was annoying. My friend's room one level up had perfectly running air-conditioning. The water in the shower also would sometimes randomly become cold about 5 minutes into the shower.

The pool is small, but looked okay. And the workout room was pretty nice. Maybe I would have had a better time if I wasn't in one of their hotwire rooms, but the service and thermostats should work the same throughout the hotels. The doorman/bellboy at the front door upon my departure was SUPER nice, which I appreciated. Overall, I would potentially stay here again if I booked directly through the website and got a good deal, but I would not recommend this place if you book through a secondary website like hotwire or travelocity.

Hotel is situated just blocks and an easy walk to Chase Field (baseball) and US Airways arena (basketball), ASU, the convention center, several museums and local dance and theatre venues. Couldn't ask for anything more central. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful (although there was no real concierge to speak of). The breakfast buffet had a nice southwestern touch and was reasonably priced. For an alternative, there is also an Einstein's Bagels in the lobby. My only true beef was the Internet access. It is free, but for only one device. If you're a business traveler with multiple devices, say a laptop and a tablet, once you register one the only way to enable the other is to purchase an "upgrade." This makes no sense since it is costing the hotel nothing really. It's nickel and dime-ing and irritating.

The hotel is located next to the sporting venues and the conference center, along with several bars and restaurants. A solid hotel with typical comfort and quality expected of Hyatt. We had a room looking west and got uncomfortably hot in the afternoon with the sun. We asked for a high floor room with a view, but ended up with a view of buildings instead. Didn't notice a problem with the elevator as some reviewers mentioned. Einstein bagels in the lobby offers free WIFI.

We looked for a Thai place and found several within a couple of blocks from the hotel and found a place with pretty decent food. We also found out about an outstanding breakfast place about 10 minutes away on foot - called Matt's. Definitely worth the walk and the wait. Very very good breakfast.

The parking is in a garage next door and costs $12 per 24 hours. You can get a coupon from the hotel for $19 which allows unlimited entry/exit. I guess it is to be expected from a downtown business hotel.

The hotel is very close to the airport as well.

Room Tip: East facing (front of the building) high floor for a view of the mountains.

I recently stayed at the hotel last week while attending a meeting. The hotel is an a great location. You can walk to many restaurants, bars, clubs, baseball and basketball stadiums. The rooms were large and the staff was friendly. I enjoyed the city view from the revolving restaurant on the 24th floor. If you are on business in Phoenix this hotel will meet your needs.

Room Tip: Full service hotel which means you pay for everything a la carte.

The hotel is fine for what I needed- Ia reasonable place close to the convention center just for me. If I were here with my kids, I'd choose somewhere else mainly because the pool is tiny, in this if all cities.
