We stayed in Phoenix for one night, and the employee working at the front desk of our hotel recommended this bar/restaurant to us when we asked for a good, cheap place to get Mexican food. Man was she right! There was a short wait for a table, but it was also 9PM on a Friday night. We could have sat out on their new patio, but decided to wait for a booth inside.
Tee Pee is very casual - more of a bar with excellent food than a restaurant with excellent food and a bar. There were guests of all sorts -- a group of senior citizens, families, people obviously meeting after work, couples, larger groups of 8+ -- and everyone was relaxed and enjoying their drinks and meals.
The servers are fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. You are served fresh hot tortilla chips and what looks like homemade salsa upon being seated. Once you skim through the menu and finally make a decision, your food arrives much faster than expected (but not so fast that you're suspicious of heat lamps and pre-cooked, pre-plated, reheated meals) so that you can dive right into their generous portions.
During our visit, my husband had the Beef Chimichanga, and I had the Chili Relleno. Both of us enjoyed every part of the plate, which included refried beans, rice, and lettuce alongside our main entrée. Because it was so delicious, both of us also ate too much. If there is any suggestion to a patron at the delicious Tee Pee, ask for a box before you realize the hard way that your eyes are bigger than your stomach. We escaped with a dinner bill under $30, and fuller-than-full bellies.
