I checked into this weird hotel, walked in my room, turned around, and checked out. I have never been in a worse hotel. The rooms are furnished with the original 1960's furniture- and it was bad then. There is NO WAY this hotel is anywhere near a three star. Women traveling alone- DON'T STAY HERE! The entire hotel looks like the set of an X-rated movie.

This hotel was basically a barely renovated holiday inn. All they did was put some new wallpaper and artwork all over to make it "hip" I guess. I personally enjoy staying at hip and out of the ordinary places but this was a little creepy. Very dark lobby and equally dark room. There was free wifi but I couldn't get the damn thing to work. I stayed there because it was cheaper than most of the other hotels in Pheonix, but I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in the past and that was much better than this hotel.

Take a 1960's hotel, hang up lots of paintings, decorate the lobby like a bordello and you have this hotel. Artsy, yes, but it's a veneer that just doesn't work.

It's a dated, dark, dreary place to stay. No lounge, bar or restaurant. I just wanted to sleep there and leave. Not a place you want to hang around in.

If you're a SOHO/Greenwich Village/Punk rocker wannabe, go. If you're a business traveller or a family, there's better places to stay.

If you travel with kids, be forewarned, lots and lots of explicit nude paintings all over the place.

Also be forewarned of a $3.00/night "resort fee." What resort?

I'm surprised to find other reviewers having anythng bad to say about this hotel. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they work for the competion in the area that is charging two or three times as much.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was large, well decorated, and very clean. The artwork throughout the hotel is a great touch. The restaurant still wasn't open, but there are a lot of good restaurants in the area. I'd definetly stay there again. Hopefully it will still be as affordable after it's caught on, which I'm sure it will.

Today so many hotels, restaurants, etc seem to have adopted the McDonald's business model; offerering an adequate, bland, easily replicable product in order to serve the most people at the greatest profit, without offending anyone's sensibilities. In a time when that kind of thinking has become the norm, it's refreshing to come across somebody even trying to be different, much less doing a good job of it, as I think they are at the Artisan.

The hotel is on the outskirt of downtown (or at least seems that way). We did have a nice view of downtown Phoenix from our room. We were originally assigned to the Frida Kahlo room on 5th floor (I think), but the room was not cleaned when we got there (ugh). We were then assigned to the 8th floor - the Sargent room. There's limited parking, so if you come back late, you would have to park across away behind the adult bookstore.

I was disappointed in the limited amenities provided, no restaurant nearby or coffee in the room. The hotel is also working on one of its floor. It just felt more like a 2 star hotel than a 3 star one.

I'm glad I only stayed for one night before heading out to Sedona.
