“Pretty standard Mexican food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

This is an Americanized version of Mexican food. There is a good variety of standard Mexican fare, that is usually very good. The service is good and the Margaritas are very good. They have a Happy Hour in the lounge and bar that is very popular with the locals.

“Okay, but expected better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

You'd think it would be easy to find good Mexican food in Phoenix, AZ... but it's not as easy as you might think!

After seeing several locations of this local chain, we decided to give it a try. The guacamole was good, but nothing special.
The rest of our meal (we tried several dishes) was okay, but again, nothing special.

One highlight, however, was the taste of the green corn tamales. My wife really enjoyed these and, although I wasn't as enthusiastic as she was, they were very good and were seasoned just right.

Surprisingly, the flan we had for desert wasn't that good. My wife and I both enjoy flan, especially when it's made right. But this flan was a bit off and it was served with a side of caramel, something I haven't seen at any other Mexican restaurant. The caramel was good, but it didn't really go well with the normally delicious sugar syrup that is served with flan.

Our waiter was pleasant and quick to provide service. And although the place wasn't particularly busy, you could tell that a good number of the patrons were "regulars". Clearly, there are many who really enjoy the food, and the prices are reasonable, so it's hard to say anything bad about the place.

So if you're okay with average-tasting Mexican food and reasonable prices, this might be a good choice. If you want a Mexican meal that is exceptional, or if you want a little classier atmosphere, you may want to try one of the other Mexican restaurants in the Phoenix area.

“Lost its glow”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

I have been eating at Macayo's restaurant at this and other locations in Phoenix for over 50 years. It's been a while since I've been in and I was saddened to see a big change. Not in the staff, they were great and did their jobs well. The food however was terrible. It was over salted and did not have that old Arizona taste that we all love. The worst part was the stomach cramps and diarrhea that followed. For sure, this restaurant has lost its glow.

“Taquito Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

I had the beef taquitos and they were great...my friend had the red corn shelled taquitos and I had a chance to sample them. This is a spin on the regular taquitos but they were equally good. next time I will order them.
