I am saddened when I see multiple reviews for nondescript chain restaurants and nothing posted for a local gem such as Durant's. This restaurant is a Phoenix institution. Red flocked wallpaper and leather banquettes seat droves of people from the early birds to close seven days a week. You might try a drop in for lunch but don't even think about showing up for dinner without a reservation. This is a big meeting place for the downtown who's who.
Everything I have had here is great. Don't go looking for nouvelle cuisine--crab claws, prime rib and fish are done simply but well. Try the Berto's ice cream for dessert. It's locally made and not available everywhere. Insider tip: don't use the front door facing Central. Park around the back and enter through the kitchen for a greeting from the line cooks.
If you are looking for an expertly prepared drink (the bartenders rock) and a great steak this is your place.
