“On the outskirts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Personally loved the location. On the outskirts of Pheonix, but well within distance to Pheonix, Glendale, Scottsdale and Tempe. Loved the views from the higher up rooms. The reviews were correct in that the rooms are average, but the service, especially the Bell Captains and Concierge were terrific. They provided exceptional recommendations for restaurants and maps. Several pool choices with the main being quite active. The Different Point of View Restaurant and adjoining lounge offer the most spectacular views of the city. The only major dissappointment was the Wi-Fi reception.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms above for optimized views.

We had a great time. The hotel room lay out was wonderful! The service at the pool was great! The fancy restaurant, Different Pointe of View, was so-so and the service was poor. If we were to do it again, we'd go up there for a drink and hang out because the view was spectacular as was the ambience. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet at The Pointe in Thyme. Overall great experience!

This is a great property from which to enjoy Phoenix. Yes, it is out of the downtown but that is its charm. You are a mere 15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle and the attractions and then you get to relax at this lovely resort. The Pointe in Tyme restaurant on the property provides a delightful breakfast with a full buffet or you can order off the menu for some scrumptious fare. The rooms are spacious with great views and fairly priced even during spring training. There is a terrific bar/restaurant called a Different Pointe of View that gives you an amazing view of the city below, especially at night. The only drawback is they close this bar WAY too early in the evening, a true pity. The one drawback to the hotel are the narrow drives and the increased likelihood that you won't find a space for your car near your room if you get back late. That said, it is a place we shall return to on our next visit.

With the cold and occasional snow in Denver, we chose this resort to escape to the Phoenix sunshine for Spring Break. The sprawling, impeccably kept property envelopes you in the rocky cliffs of the mountain with the sound of waterfalls and fountains everywhere you turn. There are so many choices of pools that there is something for everyone from the bar by the adult pool to the water slide for kids at The Falls. Surrounded by the Spanish-style architecture we found the soft cushioned lounges by the family pool in the courtyard just below our room in the main building was more than satisfying. The multiple trails leading into the flower and cactus filled hills around the resort offer a great opportunity to escape into nature. While the resort offers excellent restaurants on site, just two minutes down 7th Street you will find an excellent local breakfast at Scramble and the best homemade Mexican food you will ever eat at Los Reyes de la Torta. Overall, we enjoyed an excellent Spring Break escape to the sun, no wristbands required.

Our family spent four nights during spring break at this resort. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the two minor issues that came up were fixed quickly. The rooms are very tidy, nicely laid out, and our kids enjoyed swimming, particularly at the pool near the workout center which was less busy. Some reviewers have complained about the steepness of the property. Look at the name again--the word cliffs is in the name, so do consider that. Since we live in a hilly area on the west coast this wasn't at all a problem for us, but might be if a guest is disabled or if you are from a flat state and are unfamiliar with steep hills. We used room service once, ate at the Point in Tyme restaurant twice, and rented a cabana one day at the lower pool at the falls, a nice treat.

My one request? For those of us travelling with a family, a useless mini bar and no refrigerator was a negative. Having to walk down hill in the morning to the cafe, wait in line for milk and cereal to take to my youngest and then hoof it back up the hill was an unpleasant part of our stay. With a suite-like layout, vacationing families (and others) would benefit from the expected thoughtfulness of a small refrigerator.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us over Spring Break. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and for sharing your thoughts concerning a refrigerator. I would like to make you aware that items from our mini bar can be removed leaving available space for your items. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you and your family again.

I was here for a conference in February and was pleasantly surprised by the location and views. The hotel sits well above the northern Phoenix area on a hill top that gives you great views of the surrounding area. I didn't use the pool facilities, although they looked very nice, and the golf course on site is a nice bonus. If you are interested in desert hiking or working out, there are some great trails leaving directly from the hotel that provide hiking of various skill levels. Although the buildings all look nice, the actual rooms are slightly disappointing. With such a great location, I was expecting something a little more updated and at least on par with what you normally see in Hilton properties. Fortunately there is enough to do there that you don't have to spend a ton of time in your room. Other than that, the place was great. If you are planning to eat at their restaurant with great views, the menu can be a bit pricy, so you can opt for just going to the bar there which still has the same views of the area. It is a great option.

Room Tip: Try to get a top floor room as the lower floors can be noisy in some buildings.

Our stay at this property started off horribly. I called early asking for an early check in and could not be accommodated. I was offered a room in the main building, but didn't want that because of the potential for high traffic flow. We got to the room initially given to us and it smelled like sewage. The toilet was still running and it reeked. I'm not sure how housekeeping could let anyone stay in there. I immediately called for a new room and was told to return to the front desk where I was given a room in the main building. The same one I could have had an hour and a half earlier. I let them know this was ridiculous. They gave me a room more in line with my reservation. I can tell you Benjamin at the front desk was incredibly helpful. He went out of his way to make things right. The room beds are average and not the kind that I'm used to from a Hilton. The shower provided only half the water pressure initially. I'm not sure why their housekeeping depart couldn't have reported this to maintenance before my arrival. The refrigerator smelled every time I opened the door until I complained. I didn't want to get anything from the minibar at anytime. The carpets are old and worn out. The TV cut in and out constantly. There are no in room movies. The rooms are a bit like a dated Embassy Suites. The rooms are extremely quiet, which was very nice.

The pool was decent. The service was good, but drinks are predictably overpriced and no specials to speak of. You have to go to the pool at 8am when it is busy to save chairs or you will not get anything after 10am. They tell you not to save, but it is impossible to control. The girls running the towels told me I couldn't have as money towels as I wanted because people aren't supposed to save chairs. I pointed out that saving seats has been happening and they policy doesn't make sense. The just shrugged and said that's the policy. It is not enforced. The water slide is OK, the kid activities are lame. The rooms are at one end of the property and the main pool is at the other. It is a hike from most of the rooms. There are small pools throughout, but not for active kids.

The food was really good. The breakfast buffet was well worth it and there are plenty of dining options. The Different Pointe of View restaurant was awesome. The view is incredible and service outstanding. If you can can work it in it is a must.

The staff was responsive, but not proactive. My maintenance guy and Ben were the only two.

The location is average, but everything in the area is spread out. I'm not sure that this was such a big deal.

I would stay here if you are planning a trip 5 days or less.

I apologize that early check in was unavailable to you and for the service deficiencies you mention concerning the suite. Those items should most definitely been taken care of before anyone checked in to the suite. Thank you for mentioning Benjamin by name for his help in assisting you to find a more suitable suite. I appreciate your mentioning the food quality at Pointe In Tyme and our award winning Different Pointe of View restaurant and am happy you enjoyed the view and service as well. We value your business and hope you choose to stay with us again.
