Even though I can see this mountain from my house, I always appreciate it's unique aspect. It is a relic from many, many eons ago when Arizona was part of an area of major volcanic activity . This climb is not for sissies! The trip to the top is so worth it, especially walking up the sheer rock face. You will see athletes laden with backpacks full of bricks running up and down as you slowly ascend and descend. Don't be intimidated... Bring plenty of water even in winter, and a stout walking stick will help you.
