“Tombstone and Off Road Adventures”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

Yesterday we had our tour with Jim. It was simply amazing. As we drove to Tombstone we saw some wild Mustangs and pulled off the main route to see some planes crop dusting. We then stopped at Boot Hill Cemetery then off to the town of Tombstone. Tombstone is really about the history and everything has a fee. We went to the Bird Cage Theater where the lady was rude to Jim and there was no reason for her to be. We saw some interesting things such as a merman and bullet holes, but again it is about the history of just being there. Then we saw the OK Corral shootout show which provided us history again. Beware there are 3 gun shows that try to get you to see their show. We ate at The Crystal Palace and the performers were there and very gracious to take some pictures with us. We saw the historama which again provides history. All in all we were somewhat disappointed with Tombstone but that was not Jim's fault. Then the adventures began. Jim went off road to show us some "chit." We saw the airplane grave yard and air force base from the road. Then we stopped at the Air Museum Gift Shop for our pit stop. Then we saw the museum from outside which was very cool. We went to the mission-white dove of the dessert. It is very pretty. We had some fried Indian bread which is like an elephant ear back home. On our way back we Jim pointed out an unusual saguaro cactus. It looked like it had a perm on top with a group of things piled on top. Our next pit stop was a gas station with a Dairy Queen. He was determined we would find the DQ. We enjoyed our ice cream. Jim took us to see the dam and bridve in Tempe which was cool. Jim took many pictues of us and knew just the right shots to get. He was a wealth of information the entire trip. We absolutely loved his humor. We saw and learned so much we woukd have never seen on our own. Thank you Jim for making it so much fun. The 2 18 year olds and 16 year olds loved it too. As you have named us The Griswolds!

“Top day at Grand Canyon and Sedona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Our party of four (from Australia) undertook Vaughan’s Southwest Custom Tours one day tour of the Grand Canyon and Sedona. I originally found the company through Tripadvisor and after a couple of emails a few weeks before our visit to Phoenix I had arranged the tour. On the day we were picked up from our hotel and completed a party of eleven in the van. Diantha O (who has already posted her comments on Tripadvisor 25/5/13) was also on this tour. Princely was our guide and driver and he proved to be a magnificent one. His encyclopaedic knowledge on all aspects of the tour: - geography, flora, fauna, history, & general information, was amazing. The seats were very comfortable and while Princely explained that generally passengers are rotated on the seats over the course of the day, most of us stayed in our original locations.
The day is quite long yet we had a large range of age groups on board, from children to grandmothers, and all appeared to enjoy the whole journey. The drive during the morning took us north and we had an early lunch at Cameron’s Trading Post in Navajo lands. Being in a 12-seater vehicle we were able to visit some lookouts that large buses couldn’t access on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We visited Navajo Point, Moran Point and the main tourist lookout (Mather Point) near the visitor centre. After our fill of the magnificent scenery in the Grand Canyon Reserve we headed south to Sedona. Princely made special stops for points of interest and even accommodated my wife’s fascination to drive on part of the original Route 66 near Flagstaff and to take photos of Route 66 signs. It was quite amusing to have a couple of moose use a pedestrian crossing to cross the road in front of us on our way to Sedona. The geological formations around Sedona were amazing and Princely had timed our visit so that the formations caught the warm colours of the setting sun. The final part of the tour was the drive back to Phoenix and the rising full moon over the desert at dusk topped off a superb day.

“great way to see the grand Canyon from Phoenix”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

This was really a perfect way to see the Grand Canyon when traveling from Phoenix. For someone who just wants to see the canyon but doesn't need to to spend a lot of time there, this is the way to go. We had an excellent driver, Linda. She drove carefully and was always concerned for our safety. She is pleasant, knowledgeable and engaging! She took us to several different points and allowed us ample time for photographs. We stopped before hand for lunch at the Cameron Trading Post (I could have passed on that) and made a stop on the way back in Sedona. It is definitely not enough time to spend in Sedona - one needs to spend at least a day there, but it is enough time to get some great pictures and wet your appetite. I will say the day is very long..there is a lot of time spent in the van. I also agree that it is too long a day for the driver. Overall I I do recommend it! Linda was prompt and the van was quite comfortable and it was very reasonably priced!

Roseann~

Thank you for sharing your day on TripAdvisor and taking the time write such a nice review. You are correct in saying that touring is a great way for someone to see the Grand Canyon National Park. Tours offer the luxury of being able to sit back relax, take in the scenery, and collect all the wonderful information the guides are able to share with you. Thank you for touring with us and letting Linda tour you through some of the highlights Arizona has to offer. If you return back to the Phoenix area hopefully we will be able to take you back out on tour again.

“2nd time with Vaugh's!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

I have traveled with Vaughan's twice now and find them very professional and affordable! Laura is the best! She is very patient as you are trying to plan your activities (I feel like we have become friends). I will always tour with this company when I visit Arizona. I look forward to the Monument Valley tour one day.
As far as the tour goes, I was looking forward to touring with Princely again. We loved him! I was skeptical when I found out that another guy was doing our tour to Sedona and The Grand Canyon. However, Howard was so enthusiastic, flexible, well-informed, and knowledgable of the area, and had a great sense of humor that within minutes I was at ease and knew that this tour would be great. We traveled a very scenic route, I learned new information, we visited numerous look-out points with tons of photo opportunities, and were able to stop whenever we needed. It was a great day! I look forward to visiting Arizona again next summer and touring with Vaughns.

Oh Michelle, where do I start? Wow, we had some good times trying to get your tours(s) reserved for your stay in Phoenix. I know we were not able to confirm the Monument Valley tour but were able to get you on the one day Grand Canyon via Sedona tour with Howard. All of the tour guides are great and full of interesting information and tidbits about each of the areas. I hope that next summer we are able to get you on that Monument Valley tour so we can complete your touring bucket list!! Thank you again as always for being so kind and writing such a nice review about your experiences with our company. Again, if you ever need anything you have my email, hope to talk to you soon!!

Thank you again,
Laura T.

“Princely Is The Prince of Guides”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

Having never seen the Grand Canyon, we wanted to take a tour. Our concierge at the Orange Tree Resort, Barbara, recommened Vaughans Southwest Custom Tours. Our guide, Princely, picked us up at our hotel at the designated time. There were 11 of us of different ages, different states and different countries in the van. Princely made sure we were all introduced and made comfortable. We were off to the Navajo reservation for an early lunch and then on to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. The entire trip, Princely kept up an interesting commentary about the history, the Native American culture, the wildlife and the flora and fauna of Arizona. We learned a lot. It seemed there was nothing that Princely didn't know about the area. We all commented on how special he made us feel by going out of his way to show us things we had heard about
and a few of his special spots. Princely even helped each of us get some great photos.
We all agreed it was a great trip and Princely was the perfect guide.
