I moved here about a year ago, heard about the museum but never really looked it up - on trip advisor or elsewhere. Went on a whim over the weekend and as others have said - absolutely blown away. The very helpful staff member gave me my wireless headset and away I went. Each display you come up to has a display screen with a few short snippets about the artist, the instrument, the genre or the country - whatever the display is about. When you come near the display, the sound automatically begins, so the museum experience was actually rather quiet!
The Artist room has displays dedicated to each artist, their music plays and as you check out their memorabilia. The experience room alone was amazing. How often does one get to play a gamelan - I love them!! They have live performances scheduled in the lobby area and a nice theater with shows in the evening.
Upstairs, the displays are dedicated to each country. It was particularly exciting for me as I've begun doing some traveling and actually recognized some of the instruments, artists and songs of a few of the places which tells me that they really are selecting what is most representative of that country. I smiled all day long and had to use a little willpower not to burst out singing or dancing at each stop!!! This is now going to be my go-to museum for out of town guests!!!
