To start off: I'm writing this as a business traveler. Travelers who come to enjoy the swimming pools, tennis courts and golf courses, might have a completely other opinion.
I've started out my 6 day stay in the hotel, and a King suite overlooking the Golf Course. This room is located at 5 minutes walk from the reception. The room was absolutely beautiful, spacious, clean, great view: I was in for a great stay.
At least, until 3.00 in the morning, when an immense noise and vibration started to fill my room, and kept me from sleep the rest of the night. When I called the reception the next morning, they didn't recognize my complaint, but would send an engineer. Later that day when visiting the lobby, I've asked again, and they promised me that the engineer would now really come. Coincidentally, I was in my room when the engineer showed up. He told me, that the noise was normal for my room, since the Airco unit for the entire building was placed on top of it. On my question if he would be able to sleep in this noise, he had a swift reply: No!
And, the those who think I may be overreacting to the noise: My neighbour the room next to me called me at 4.00 in the morning, what the heck that noise was. When I visited that room the next day, it wasn't half of what I was hearing in my room, but it still kept him out of his sleep. The most annoying thing about this, is the fact that the other staff acted like I was the first to report this issue, while apparently, it was a common problem for that room.
After my complaint, I got transferred to another room in a other building (and my room was given to another person, who also left that room after day 1). My new room also had the word "suite" in it, but only because "bigger than average room" didn't sound so nice I guess. However, it was a fine room, where I stayed the rest of my days.
The hotel is build on a big (big!) area. It is absolutely beautiful and well taken care off. But, as a place to conduct business, it's not that great. Everything is far apart. Also, the conferencing area doesn't have the grandeur the rest of the hotel has. The main building is actually breathtakingly beautiful.
The bar in the hotel, and the terrace next to it, is nice, but overly expensive. $7,- for a normal beer, come on (still better than the prices of the mini bar though, were $8,- for water is the standard). When I visited the bar with some colleagues, the bill after 50 minutes was higher then the room price.
The staff is friendly in the hotel, and as said, especially the main building is a work of art.
When leaving the hotel (together with 3 colleagues by car), I've asked the question if anyone would like to stay at the premise again, and the consensus was, that the 4 of us, wouldn't pick it again.
I said it at the beginning: When visiting this hotel on holiday or for the sports accommodations, you might get a whole other experience. But for us a business travelers, it was a 1 time experience.
