Wow...during a recent visit to see my sister in Scottsdale she surprised myself and my two girls (ages 15 and 16) with this adventure of hot air ballooning...and what a surprise and an amazing experience this was. We arrived early in the morning and were taken by van to an area where the balloons were prepared for take off. The process of setting up for take off is very interesting and we eagerly watched as they layed out the balloons and baskets, filled the balloons with air with fans and then started the heating process. The captain clearly discussed safety procedures with all before take off. There were 12 of us in each basket and we were in groups of three nestled in each corner of the basket. This made for easy access for all for great views. The heat from the flames can be warm and if you stand further away from the burner it can be warm on the head so I suggest bringing a hat. (They do have hats on board in case you don't bring one.) If you stand closer in to the captain it can be cooler. Bottled water is also offered in flight!! We flew high and then we flew lower and the views were spectacular. It is a true feeling of floating and it is so peaceful and quiet. For those photo buffs this is an awesome opportunity to get some really great desert scenery photos. When we flew low we looked for wildlife and spotted and few jack rabbits. Captain Mike manned our balloon and was very informative about the mechanics of ballooning and of the desert and all its details. My teenage daughters loved it and learned a lot about the desert. We had a perfect landing and a wonderful champagne breakfast finish. This is a very organized group and I would certainly recommend Hot Air Expeditions as a great choice for fulfilling your ballooning adventures.
